After 40 years of toting Ruger single action revolvers, (mostly in .45 Colt), daily I changed over to a .40 cal semi-auto in the form of a SR40c. Hey, it will never have the trigger of my Vaquero, but it weighs less and is easier to carry concealed.

While I've read all of the beefs about this gun, my copy shoots pretty straight and compared to other new-fangled sidearms the trigger ain't half bad. Still, I like to tinker on my guns; personalize them a bit. So far I've changed the striker follower/indicator from the black plastic to a slightly longer aluminium one from TDR Machining that they call their "tactical" model. (Ruger should have done this themselves.) I've also dropped the aggravating mag disconnect. Eventually I will replace the spring guide rod with a stainless version and might try a Ghost trigger bar.

Now that I've rambled, does anyone know someone making aftermarket triggers for the SRs? Like the milled billet aluminum ones you see for the 10/22 rifles. Methinks a red trigger would look nice in there - without resorting to spray paint. (You know someone would say it!)

I've emailed a couple of manufacturers of aftermarket items. No joy so far, though I've not heard back from Galloway yet.

I have a Sr9c and to knowledge no one makes a replacement trigger,Galloway and Ghost make parts to lighten and shorten the trigger pull.

RTK is planning to design an aftermarket trigger for the SR series. It is a year or so out.

Thanks, guys!

Welcome Singh!

That is good to know! If you do get one, or find another trigger, please let us know and what you think of them.

I've been looking to get an SR in 9 or 45, maybe both! :)

Can't speak to the 9mms or .45, but as for the .40, it is all you could ask for in a compact weapon. I've shot many .40 caliber pistols, but this one takes the cake on accuracy and perceived recoil. Currently I'm running Hornady 175gr. Critical Duty ammo and it 'feels' more like a .380 to my hand.

Two things that I've done is 1) remove the mag safety, and change the striker indicator to a longer, aluminum version from TDR Machining. (Your mileage may vary.) I've heard many complaints concerning the trigger, and while it isn't a 1911 race gun, it is really pretty good. I'm going to install a Ghost bar and when done I will report back.

So far I have been very happy with the trigger on my SR9c; way better out of the box than comparable models from Glock and S&W that I tried. Please keep us updated on any future mods you do to the trigger on your SR40c.

I've got an sr9 and I put a ghost trigger and spring kit from Galloway in mine. It made a noticeable difference, much smoother. However I have since bought a Walther PPQ, fantastic trigger, thinking about selling the SR now. Just sayin....
But the kit from Galloway was well worth it.

I have an early SR9 and did the Ghost trigger (but not the Galloway spring). A big improvement, but still a bit heavier than I want.

I picked up a used, STOCK SR9c recently, and that trigger is MUCH better than the stock SR9 and BETTER than my SR9 with the Ghost-enhanced SR9. (Ruger apparently made some changes to the fire control system design when the SR9c was introduced. I suspect newer SR9s are better, too.

The SR9c trigger is pretty good. I'm not sure it's worth messing with.

For competition, you might want something a bit better, but there are no potential legal ramifications there. For home defense/self defense-carry, I don't think what you gain can offset what you might lose...

For decades I've carried a .45 Colt single action revolver as my EDC, and my last one - a Ruger New Vaquero - has never had a factory round through it. I live in Mobile, AL. And I suppose that could make a difference, but mods or handloads are not what I'll worry about at midnight when a couple of thugs kick in my front door! I also volunteer with the local Sheriff and I don't think he will fret over much either. Not due to favoritism, but that we understand that cops can't be everywhere.
I doubt I will reload for the .40 cal. Practice ammo I have covered and the Hornady 175gr. Critical Duty shoot to POA, and if they open in human like they did in my denim covered ballistic gel I just have to worry about putting them on target.
