I am going to get a great deal on a used sr9 full size pistol.

I want to get into IDPA shooting in my area and need an Outside the Waistband holster that is kydex, preferably.

I dont mind spending up to about 100 bucks.

Id prefer to spend closer to 50 but if it seems worth it , Ill spend a little more.

I heard of the Blackhawk SERPA holster.
I saw the one that is on rugers website, the FOBUS, holster as seen here:

Has anyone used the above holsters for IDPA and if so, what is your experience?
Thank you for helping me!

I have no experience with either the BlackHawk SERPA or Fobus. As far as the SERPA goes, I would not use a holster with a lock device for competition. No matter how good you are working the lock, my guess is most of your competition will not have a lock device on their holsters, and they will be at an advantage.

I suspect most of the competition guys are using a holster from one of the following…

Blade-Tech http://shop.blade-tech.com/owb-holster-c-1_23_24.html

Comp-Tac http://www.comp-tac.com

Ready Tactical http://cpwsa.com/products/ready-tactical-uspsa-idpa-holster

Here is some old news on what was used at the 2011 IDPA World Shoot http://www.idpa.com/blog/post/2012/04/21/Blade-Tech-Comp-Tac-Top-Holsters-at-IDPA-World-Shoot.aspx

I tried a Serpa in IDPA, it's too slow. Replaced it with a Blade Tech. Great holsters. My wife used a Galco Matrix, and it worked well too.

I will check into all of these.

I didn't think the lock on that holster would be a good idea but if someone SWORE it was better than sliced bread...maybe.My gut told me it would be better served as a range/shooting all day kind of holster. Shoot some shotgun, the sr9, the gp100 then back to the sr9. I didn't think it would be an ideal holster for something like IDPA, I just thought I would ask.

Also want to get a light for the SR9 for home defense. Would you shoot with it on so you have the same muscle memory from shooting with it on? Having the light on there is that against the rules, not in terms of turning it on, but maybe because it might fall under some rule about having augments fromth e production design on there?

I'm not an IDPA competitor, but I don't think the rules allow lights mounted on the gun.

I think it is rule 8.1.7.6

An FYI, in general, a holster for a light mounted gun, will not work without the light mounted. The light provides a retention point.

Kydex.....

I own a SERPA for Smith & Wesson M&P pistols(left hand). They work well & can be quickly converted from strong to cross draw. Or high-ride to FBI cant.
Other top Kydex styles include; Blade-tech, www.blade-tech.com , FIST, Galco, COM Holsters, Safariland.

Call or email the firm first to make sure they can provide the holster you want & how long it might take. Sales & custom orders sometimes take longer due to high demands.
