After about 9 months searching for the .454 Alaskan, I finally gave up and bought a .500 Smith and Wesson. I have also looked for the .44 mag Alaskan, the new 4-inch Redhawk .44 mag, and a stainless 4-inch GP100   ! What is going on at Ruger. I had no problem whatsoever finding my P95. I can't believe this, it is purely ridiculous :cuss: !!! I am starting to think that I may never get the chance to own a Ruger revolver :( .

If you don't mind using gunbroker there's
more than one GP-100 on there along with
the new 4"redhawk.The redhawks are pricey
but i've GP-100's in the low 300 dollar range
for used one's.

Similar Ruger Experience

I had a similar experience last year trying to obtain a Ruger Frontier for deer season last year. We looked for four months calling every gun shop in Phoenix, no one carried them and those that promised to special order them, in the end, couldn't...

What's up with Rugers not being available?

I had the same problem with an SP-101.

I could not find had one. Not even the distributors.

So I called Ruger direct.

"I can't believe that there are no SP-101's to be had", I said.

To that, Ruger replied, "Yes sir, it is indeed possible. We make a run of a model of firearm, the number of which is based on the projected sales volume. If our estimates are off, and demand exceeds the supply, there can indeed be a period of time when no more are available for sale."

I eventually got one and rest assured, it won't be sold anytime soon.

Sportsman's Warehouse

Have you checked Sportsman's Warehouse? Do you have one anywhere around you? They seem to have a nice selection of new popular handguns. I bought a SA Mil-Spec from them when everyone else said they couldn't get one.

Rugers

I've seen SP 101's and GP 100's and Blackhawks. I occasionally see Redhawks, and Modell 77's are quite common. But I've yet to see anything in the Alaskan. And again I was irritated about not being able to find the Frontier.

Mary's Pistols in Tacoma had several the last time I was there. I bought one of the .44 magnums.

I don't know where you live.

I guess Columbus, OH is the place to be then. I just saw a NIB Alaskan @ my local place when I picked up my (brand new) SP101 a few days ago... guess we didn't get the memo here. :D

I've actually had to order my Ruger guns.

I walk into my gunstore-of-choice and put a couple hundred bucks down. They talk to their distributor and get one shipped immediately. Gun arrives in a couple days, I pay the remainder and get the background check done. I take my gun home.

I've done this with a 3" sp101, a 5.5" blued Redhawk, and I am probably going to do this tomorrow with a 4" stainless Redhawk.

Most shops don't keep a full line-up of all of Ruger's offerings... it seems they tend to only have 1-2 examples of each frame type (sp, gp, redhawk, SRH, blackhawk). It would be very cost-prohibitive to stock every Ruger variant.

I always see Rugers at the two Outdoor Worlds in Florida I go to. The one in Orlando and the one in Ft. Lauderdale. I also see plenty of Rugers at the gun shows in Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando, including the rarer ones like Alaskans. Of course it is all about geography. Apparently where your at they seem to be rare.

Price Check

$499 for a stainless 357mag Vasquero (sp?).

$575 blackhawk bisley 357 with unfluted cylinder and engravings on the cylinder that say "Bisley".

I am looking for another single action and was looking at these two my local shop.

Florida must be the place to be, because you
cannot go to a Gun shop around here without
tripping over Rugers.
Around here you can get Redhawks, Blackhawks,
GP's, SP's... whatever.
The only Ruger's that are hard to find here are
Mini-14/30's.

the ammunitionstore. com has gp100 listed at $299 each,

couldn't help you on the bigger revolvers, my local shop don't have them either

I purchased my Super Blackhawk right as the assault weapons ban was going into effect. My gun was backordered for six months. I was told that production was geared towards producing mini-14's and magazines trying to beat the clock. Anything like that coming down the pike?

You all keep buying because I sure like the stock right now.

I bought in Jan. Me thinks it is just about time to sell.

Since you can't find any Rugers go buy a couple new Smith and Wessons

Their stock needs a shot.

Bought this in Jan also.

wow, didn't know rugers were so hard to find in other areas. I can go into any gun shop around here and see 2 or 3 of each of the models you mentioned. Maybe it's just because rugers are made in this state?

Some help?

I just purchased my Redhawk four inch for $529 three weeks ago. Worth every penny after shooting it this weekend.

My Ruger Alaskan .44 still sits at VanWagones Finance in Orem, Utah. Please call and speak with Norm at 801-226-4488 if interested. He may do a dealer to dealer ffl transfer if you want.

In addition, he has plenty of SP's and A few GP's. It is where I buy almost all of my guns. He is competitive and beats the socks off prices at our local Sportsman Warehouse and Cabelas.

God Bless,

Porter.

With newly introduced models the exception (slow release and allocated due to more demand than availability), if you cannot find a Ruger, you surely aren't looking very hard or your dealer isn't trying very hard.

Found one of them, I guess

Well, I just stopped by me local gun shop today and asked them to call the distributor and check for the 4-inch stainless Redhawk. At my disbelief, they said that they had one. It should be here in a couple of days. I just hope that it is the right thing, they have sent me the wrong gun before :scrutiny: :banghead: :cuss: ! Maybe there is hope for my Ruger collection after all.

Porter Rockwell,

Say hi to Norm Vanwagonen for me. Over 25 years ago, I was buying guns from him. Wouldnt live in Utah now, if you gave it to me, but there was a time, before it was overpopulated....

Wheat, wheat, wheat............

Greg8098,

Are you willing to drive to Baton Rouge? There's a local gun store here, quite large actually, Jim's Firearms. They have quite a selection and will probably order whatever you need with no hassle, if they don't already have it, I don't know because I haven't been in quite a while. The prices are high, though. Give them a call and see. (225) 293-5467. I hope you find your gun.
