I need an easy to remember rule of thumb for S&W sight adjustment. For me that might be a rule of "All-Thumbs."
Which direction do you turn the screw to raise the rear sight? At least two of my Smiths do not have a legend stamped on the sight. I hope all fairly recent Smiths have the same direction to raise.

I can’t help, but I fired 3 rounds, then adjusted a few clicks and fired 3 more, all from a rest. At that point it is pretty easy to figure it out. Sorry, that’s all I got.

Move the rear sight in the direction you want the point of impact to go. If you want move point of impact up and right, then adjust the rear sight up and right.

If I can’t tell from looking at them which direction the screws move the sight I just crank it one full turn and note which way it moved.

Ok so clockwise moves the rear down.
That means "RIGHTY LOWER" That will be my new rule of thumb. Thanks Lefty lower would be easier to remember!

Yes after shooting for 65 years I know which direction to move the sight., but the sight is not marked with which direction to turn the screw to accomplish the move. A most agonizing dilemma foisted off on us by Mr. Smith & Wesson. This condition can also be aggravated by not bring a small screwdriver to the range with you.

There you go. That'll work.

I find more and more I tend to pick a bullet weight that each gun likes and stick with it so adjustments are minimized. Horizontal adjustments hardly ever happen with me.

Righty, tighty, lefty loosey. Tighten it and vertically it will shift down.
Unless it is a left hand threaded screw. I would never think that would be a reality, but someone said his Ruger is backwards. That is what it would take, right?

Vertical adjustment is the same for Ruger and S&W rears, it is the horizontal adjustment that is different. (unless I "miss" remember)
