I am new to this group, but have a 1851 Colt replica, purchased in upstate NY in mid to late 70's. It was fired and there are 2 chambers with rusty nipples, that do not budge to come out. I purchased a ratcheting nipple wrench and have not used it yet. The cheaper hand wrench does not budge them. I read in Nipple Replacements in this forum, to use liquid wrench or Kroil. Should I put the liquid in each chamber overnight, plugging the nipple holes. Is this the best thing for me to do? Thanks!

That has usually worked for me. Had an ASM Walker once that took PB Blaster & Kroil mixture almost a week to loosen up a reluctant nipple. Once it came out and got cleaned up, it never gave me another problem.

Now, there's a SASS alias: Rusty Nipples.
Wonder if it's already taken. :)

50/50 ATF and acetone is a better penetrating oil than either Kroil or Liquid Wrench.
Make up a jar & drop the cylinder in it for a week.
Meanwhile, make a jig with two chamber-sized dowels.
Clamp the jig in a vice.
Position the cylinder on it with the dowels in the chambers, so the cylinder will not rotate while you try to get the nipple out, and bear down hard while yer turning the wrench.

Since the cylinder is small put it through a couple freeze and thaw cycles using a good penetrating oil, wrapping the cylinder in foil and toss it in the deep freeze over night, then warm it up with a heat gun or hair dryer.

Excellent method Dawg.
The only thing I did was place the device on a drill press and used the quill to apply just enough vertical force to prevent the wrench from camming of the nipple. Used this method on a couple of 1965 vintage Centennials.

I was used dagger doggs advise and it worked like a charm and the nipples came out easy enough. A little pressure on the top of each nipple, while turning the nipple wrench, undid the 2 rusty nipples. I immersed the cylinder into a 1/2 acetone (100%) and 1/2 ATF solution for a week.
Thank you all!

DawgTechnique + hammer taps on the top of the (in-line) wrench while applying turning pressure.
Even if it doesn't free up immediately with that technique (rare), letting it sit another 24 hrs in the
penetrating liquid will seep into any corrosion micro-cracks that the impact hammering started.

Do like says MEHavey and if it doesn't work you can do it with a very little oxy-acetylene tool with micro-flame (we call it micro-dard) on the cylinder around the nipple and put it in cold oil when warm and after again with a good wrench it must come...

Also you can make a very strong wrench in a 5mm socket wrench with a Dremel or something of this type: it works good...

I did it many times and I never had any problem... ;)
