My wife and I have two fine revolvers that belonged to her father before he passed 15 years ago. I know he was a police officer, but dont know if he ever used either of these as his service revolver. The model 10 has worn blueing, but the 60 is SS and man is it nice looking. I was wondering if anyone could look up the serial numbers for me. I will do my best to explain the guns.

First the 10 is a 10-6, below that is stamped 53377. 4 inch barrel, .38SW special CTG. My wife has put pachmayr rubber grips on it. its blue. 6 shot, square butt. Serial # D262223

The mod60 is SS, it does not have a dash number but below the mod 60 stamp, is 36679 and then in a larger but lighter stamp is C1S or 8 or 6, its very hard to tell from the light stamping. There is also another sideways S.wood grips, almost a 2inch barrel, .38spl. Its a five shot, I don't know if its considered a round butt or square, the grips are very tiny! I am hoping to put laser sight grip on soon, so I can hold on to it better. Serial# R175589

Any info on age and value, (not that I selling them by any means haha!)would be very helpful! Thanks for helping!

The numbers on the crane and in the frame are assembly numbers. The Model 10 was made in 1969-1970. The worn bluing indicates it might have been his service revolver; most police guns are carried a lot, but rarely shot. Value would be around $200-250.

The Model 60 was made between 1974 and 1977. Value as described would be around $350. Either would be fine for home defense or carry, but I would rate the Model 10 better for the former purpose because of the longer barrel and better sight radius.

Thanks alot Jim! Thats very informative! Both guns are listed on my CCW card, The 10 is by far my favorite to shoot, but too heavy to carry. I saw a show on the outdoor channel the other night about snub nose revolvers and the S&W J frame as a great gun to conceal but hard to shoot, they suggested the laser sights, and I am considering that option, I just need to shoot it more. Are all J frames or more specifically my mod-60 a round butt? Thanks again!

I carried a mod 10 heavy barrel 4" for 20 years on the job a great service wheel gun and a model 36 off-duty
The 10 was sold when I retired some 19 years ago but still have my model 36 special 38 cal.
