I agree to the extent that they are/were no better than Colt's Officers Model Match target revolvers. Smith and Colt target-configured revolvers ruled the roost in serious Bullseye competition matches for decades for a reason or two.

Yes, The Officer's Model Targets were really nice too. But they tend to go out of time a bit more easily than a Smith. And hard as it is to find a gunsmith today who knows how to work on a S&W, it is even harder to find one who can work on a double action Colt.
The little 22 Police Positive Targets were really nice too.
