Well, as the title says I have a S&W Model 2214. It hasn't seen a whole lot of use, as it was a gift to my mom several years ago. However, the front sight has started get a lot of horizontal play. It has fixed sights but is there anyway for me to fix the sight or would I have to go to a smith. Would S&W still work on it? They stopped production several years ago.

Depending on which exact 2214 model it is, the front sight is either pinned, or dovetailed to the slide.

If pinned, the pin may have broken and needs to be replaced.

If dovetailed?
Take it off, de-grease it & the slide dovetail, and put a drop or two of BLUE #242 Lock-Tight on it and put it back on, centered.

Let it set over night to cure and it is fixed from now on.

You could also remove the sight and lightly dimple the bottom of the sight blade with a center punch as well as tap down the edges of the dovetail to draw them closer together. HTH

How difficult is it to remove the front sight? Could I just use some needle nose pliers wrapped in electrical tape and pull it straight out?
