As Malamute suggested when cleaning your revolver you want to avoid using any sort of copper solvent. The reason for this is that a lot of nickel plated guns needed to be first plated with copper in order for the nickel to take hold. When you use a copper solvent, like Hoppes No. 9, it can get go after the sub-layer of copper plating and cause it to come off the metal, taking the nickel plating with it.
