For those that don't know, you still need to have the cylinder cut for moon clips to use 45 Auto Rim ammunition or the revolver designed for moon clipped 45 ACP ammunition from the get go. The rim on 45 Auto Rim simulates a 45 ACP with a moon clip installed. The 45 Auto Rim rim is lots thicker than the rim on a 45 Colt.

Starline makes good 45 Colt cases.

I don't think I have ever seen a 45 Colt cylinder cut for use with 45 Auto Rim. That would be a strange beast. If you cut a 45 Colt cylinder so it would accept and properly head space 45 Auto Rim it will no longer head space 45 Colt without a moonclip. When cutting a revolver cylinder for moonclips that is chambered in a rimmed cartridge it is typical to leaving a raise rim around the complete outside of the cylinder so that the rimmed cartridge will head space with or without a moonclip. As below (not my picture) is a 625 45 Colt cut for moonclips. As you can see the 45 Colt cartridges, in the absence of the moonclip are head spacing on the raised rim around the perimeter of the cylinder. This cylinder will work with 45 Colt with or without the moonclips and 45 ACP with the moonclip. It will not work with 45 ACP without or moonclip or 45 Auto Rim at all as you would not be able to close the cylinder due to the extra thickness of the 45 Auto Rim's rim. 45 Auto Rim is really only meant for revolvers intended for 45 ACP that do not have the raised rim around the perimeter. S&W and Colt 1917's and S&W 625/25 in 45 ACP and a few other dedicated 45 ACP revolvers.

Yes, you are correct. I was fixed on the thickness of the 45 Auto Rim rim and forgot about the diameter of the rim. This would then require the entire face of the cylinder, or at least most of it, be cut to be able to shoot 45 Auto Rim in the revolver.

Mine can't be bought for that price I can assure you. Cast my own and shoot everything from standard 250 gr cowboy stuff to 270 grain Sasquatch loads. ( not too often on the hot stuff). I had my cylinder milled to accept ACP in a moon clip. Developed a load where both LC and ACP have same POI. My steady companion in the woods. Has been to church in a suit too! Would hate to be without it!

My 625 in .45Colt is one of my favorite revolvers. If I want to hunt with a handgun I'll chose my 629. My primary use for it, besides just being fun to shoot, is for personnel protection from 4 legged critters in the north woods. I load it up with a Cast Performance LFNGC bullet over 8.5gr. of Universal Clays for about 900fps, low muzzle blast, fast recovery, very accurate, everything you need nothing you don't. Perfectly capable of bringing down the biggest Blackie in my neck of the woods. Hope like hell I never need it.
