S&w 638

I've never had a problem with HKS speed loader clearance with the stock boot grips that came on my 642.
The older Uncle Mike's grips work perfectly with an HKS speedloader. The newer factory grips feel good and look good but are not relieved enough and sure enough will easily lock a speedloader up tight. I too wonder why S&W has not corrected that. Hogue Bantams work quite well but I don't like them as well as Uncle Mike's. (They are a bit lighter, though.)

I liked the older Uncle Mike's grips which were copies of the Craig Spegel design but for so he reason Butler didn't see fit to renew their contract with Spegel. Too bad because I really don't like the newer grips at all. (especially on the J frames)

Hi Jim K

Your example again demonstrates how lethal a combat knife can be in skilled hands. I emphasize skilled, especially anyone who was trained in commando silent killing techniques. Proper knowledge of anatomy and the right type of knife (not all knives are equal) can be devastating against anyone carrying a firearm.
Again, it goes back to situational awareness and place awareness. Being invisible while seeing everything around you. Planning rabbit holes in advance and knowing how to recognize them. And having an alternate method of self defense if that time arises.
There was another thread regarding the increase in concealed carry with the elderly. That is commendable and I'm all for it but you still have to take in consideration eyesight capability, reaction time, and decreased strength. Route planning, being unpredictable, not taking the same route over and over again, and time of day.
Those collapsible clubs can deliver massive pain is applied on the right anatomical landmarks.

Range experience

I did get to shoot my new S&W 638-with 100 rounds of .38 and 25 +P at 10 yards. The experience was flawless. This revolver is surprisingly comfortable to shoot.
I went to the Rose Lake range and I will try it out also at a private range to practice rapid fire; Rose Lake allows firing with 3 second pauses between shots.
I was expecting some wrist problems after 50 rounds of .38 and when none were presented I continued with another 50 rounds of .38. For some reason I have always been accurate with my .45s and the +P showed also an increase in accuracy. Overall, this revolver is very accurate. It's all up to the operator.
Cleaning was a breeze.
It was interesting that while I waited for a firing stand I was observing some people firing semi autos. I don't know if the stars were not aligned right but many had all kinds of problems which in an emergency would have proved fatal in an actual confrontation. This revolver just kept on shooting!

Very comfortable and a great revolver to shoot. Totally pleased.
