trbon8r I appreciate your sarcasm, I just wanted to know why you don't like the castings. If it's just a matter of looks, that's fine. Personal preference... A lot of people just plain don't like that there are castings. They don't need a reason, that is OK, I don't mind that at all. I just wanted to see if you had anything more to say about what you didn't like about Rugers and the way they are made. You don't have to like Rugers, I'm not asking you to, but if there was some important flaw I wanted to know about it.

I like the philosophy that says "well, if I don't know which is best, buy one of each" :D Good thing I'm too poor, otherwise I would buy so many guns for no reason...

I don't care about such petty things as this looks nicer, no wait -- this is stronger, this is better made. I have two Ruger revolvers: the New Single Six and the GP100 (bought for my father). I love the both (largely because they're blued guns with a great balance). I also have a 686 4" (used) and getting a S&W 60 2" (.357 new). I may even get a model 10 S&W this summer follow up by a S&W 36LS. I'd also love a 3" SP101 and a snubbie 2" DAO. If it fits well, performs great -- who cares? You think the guy breaking into my house is going to say, "You're planning on shooting me with that ugly piece of crap?" I don't think so.....a Smith or Ruger -- both work fine for me. Get your Dad what he wants. If his age is an issue, the .44 might not be a great idea. I'm going to have my Dad shoot both calibers out of the GP and let him choose which is most comfortable. Can't do that with a .44 -- my two cents.
