First look around for similar guns, get a feel for your asking price. Once you know what you want or need to get out of it I agree with the above. Also, depending on your location make sure you comply with any local, state or federal laws (local and state). Here in Ohio for example I can sell any of my guns through a private sale. This forum also has a buy, sell and trade section, you may want to list it there.

I would closely investigate the sights and hammer that they are an improvement or deduction to the gun.

My sense is the latter but they may have a place in the 1917's or target shooting's history.

Either way - they will have a DISTINCT effect on the price and it would be better you know the facts before talking money to anyone who will automatically talk them down on spec or through bad-acting.

All that being said - from the single picture, it seems to be in excellent shape and at the top of its respective market value.

Id bounce over to the S&W forum and ask around there. That sort of thing is their specialty and you will likely get a good idea as to what you have and what its worth.

Looks like Jim beat me to it. :)
