S&W lock removal

If I could choose to have one without the lock I would, but the fanatic hatred of it is perplexing to me.
It is something that doesn’t have to be on it . It looks hideous . It was done for political reasons and it can and has failed . You can by a good revolver that doesn’t have it , even a used S&W . Most of my S&W revolvers were bought used .

Buy an often sought Anaconda, it lacks holes and blems, very stout build for heavy handloads, has a longer cylinder too. :D

No Smith w a lock, no Ruger w a billboard either.
Ruger did shrink and move it underneath and that is IMHO tolerable.
Of course one could just have it rebarreled.

C'mon man, it's for the kids.....
Don't you guys love the kids???
I mean it takes a village to raise our, I mean your kids.
Don't you want our, I mean your kids to be safe?

(Typed with the utmost sarcasm)

I'll agree except as stupid is, stupid does.

The days of rural kids bringing hunting rifles to school for squirrel shooting, or other critter shooting, after school are long gone.

I often wonder, how many people that claim they “will never buy a Smith & Wesson with a lock” will buy a new S&W when / if they manufacture revolvers without the locks?

I sourced pre-lock guns, because I wanted non-lock guns.
So, I would have purchased 3 new guns, if I could. I would have purchased probably 2 more if I could have found pre-lock guns.

I don't like the meaning behind the lock.
I don't like it adds locations for crap to enter the gun.

"Anything mechanical can fail but the risk is very, very low. Heck, mainsprings fail all the time."

Really? When was the last time you saw a mainspring fail? I have never seen a mainspring fail, and I have never seen a picture of an S&W mainspring failure.

I have owned probably 40 S&W revolvers over the last 20+ years.

I have owned a number of ILS revolvers and sold most of them off.

Currently own two, and both run "The Plug".

Only S&W revolver on my current shopping list is a no-lock 642 or a no-lock 442.

All the other ones I own (or care to own) are pre-lock S&Ws.

YMMV, and I really don't care how you rationalize it....

I absolutely hate the lock on the guns but with that said I have a 629 “Classic” with the lock and it is at the top of my list for my fun range guns. As for plugging the lock, its just polishing a turd in my opinion. It is still a post lock gun with a noticeably filled hole in the frame.

As the armorer for my depart, I have replaced every moving part on S&W revolvers. Mainsprings get broken (one of the ears snaps off), sight blades, barrels, hammers, triggers, you name it. Revolvers that get used everyday can get beat. When one of our guys retired, I had to file his rear sight back into the correct shape, on a Model 10!

Do these things happen every day? Of course not, but handle enough revolvers and you will be amazed at what can break.

Cfullgraf: Now, if S&W would make a run of Model 16’s chambered in 32 S&WL, I’d be in hog heaven.
You and me both. Lock or no lock.
Gosh, add me to the list...and make it a skinny bbl'd, no full under lug, 4"er too...and while we're at it, how 'bout a pair of the old style 'coke bottle' target stocks, and chamber it for that bestest of all 32's, the .32 H&R. Rod (still dreamin' here in KY)

Rodfac,

I know a fellow that can build that exact revolver for you!
