S&w m&p .40 vs cz p09 .40

To be honest it would be a hard decision for me. I like a single double action and i love the CZ design. Had it been cz75 i would have taken it easily.

But between the M&P and P09 i would go with the M&P 40 personally. It fits my hand much better and points and shoots just as well as the CZ. The trigger is the only draw back. I can do a CZ trigger job much cheaper and achieve more with less. But the M&P 40's are cheaper and more available used through buds.

I own booth on .40 and while they are close, the Smith is slightly more comfortable( grip surface is not as sharp), muzzle rise and felt recoil is less in the CZ, the P09 is my go to gun.

I have the M&P 40 and like them a lot. I also have a CZ and like it a lot also, though it's in 9mm.

The CZ is an absolute pleasure to shoot. I think you'll get a unanimous consensus on that subject. The M&P shoots well also, but having a polymer frame it's much better suited for carry than any all metal gun. As far as reliability goes they're both 100%.

You will find a plethora of holster options for the M&P, whereas you might have to search harder for the CZ. Not to worry though, High Noon Holsters has the CZ line covered (as well as most others) but you will pay more. On the other hand they're totally worth the money.

Customization options, if you're into that, are plentiful for both. Factory support is excellent, though in my opinion CZ-USA has more of a personal touch since they're much smaller than S&W.

Triggers: without a doubt the CZ's stock trigger will be superior, by a large margin. With the passage of time I have grown an even greater appreciation for it. On the other hand (are you sensing a trend here) Apex does a brisk business selling improved M&P trigger "enhancement kits". The M&P's action is good enough for me though, so I have not done that. S&W also offers a "performance enhancement package" but when I asked others to review or comment on just what you get for the $120 it was met with silence.

Prices... no doubt S&W will be less expensive than the CZ, but in my opinion CZs are well worth the premiums they command. They have literally doubled in price since I bought mine but I still think they're undervalued.

So there you go... choices, choices. Do what I do and buy both.

After looking at and handling a lot of small handguns I settled on the Shield .40, mostly because it fit my hand best and pointed easily. I figure I'll run a few hundred round through it first then decide if I'll put a trigger kit in it.

ive never even shot the cz so I have nothing to say about one but my 40 shield has been a great gun so far. Its digested proabably 5000 rounds and hasn't missed a beat yet with factory ammo or handloaded lead bullets.

Glock fan here. Currently investigating the CZ and have the P07 in 9mm on order. I have shot a friend's CZ P07 Duty in 40 and liked it quite a bit more than the Glock 22 or SW M&P 40. Less recoil, muzzle flip, nicer trigger. Bud's has the PO9 40 at a good price, too.

Great points, all around, here. As much as I love CZ's, if EDC-ing is involved, I'd go with the S&W (I also love the old gen3 Smiths, as well as the polymer Shield9).
Also, S&W's killer customer service is always a major factor.
As already stated, you can't really go wrong with either, it comes down to your specific needs and budget, and how they feel in your hand.

Between these two, which would you pick and why?

Really appreciate the thoughts!
I haven't tried the CZ, and am a relatively new gun owner (Bought first gun in Aug last year, a Taurus PT709 9mm) but after being persuaded by my FFL to try a full size M&P .40 a few weeks ago, trading in a purchase I regretted (Beretta PX4 Storm compact). I really like the M&P. It shoots smoothly, I can shoot well with it, I haven't had any malfunctions in 1000 rounds with several types of ammo (Winchester white box JHP, Federal Target FMJ, Magtech FMJ, PPU JHP. I can't comment on the CZ as I haven't tried it, but I can fully endorse the M&P .40.

I've shot the M&P 40, and own a p-09 in 9mm...you can't go wrong with either IMHO. Myself I prefer the SA/DA with decocker setup.
