S&W M&P Shield.....and M&P 45c - It was a good week :)

The shield rides in the hip pocket of my jeans just fine- you can say what you want about it not being pocketable, I consider it perfectly pocketable.

I don't care personally if this one is pocketable (i.e., for continuous, practical pocket carry, as opposed to being able to stick it in your pocket temporarily). I do want a slimmer belt gun. I had hoped the Bersa BP9 would work out better.

Care to elaborate?

I also agree about a slimmer belt gun. There are more than a few times I really though the M&P would be perfect if it would a bit slimmer and with the option of a manual safety. In the winter I don't care but there times in the summer when a slimmer, lighter weapon will be really nice.

Do me a favor and quickly draw that LC9.

As stated, only pocketable 9 is R9

By the way, my Shield has been happily riding in the right front pocket of my jeans (in a pocket holster) all day today, and the draw is perfectly fine.

That makes your claim irrelevant to most then

No, it proves that statements that claim absolutes like "the R9 is the only pocketable 9 in existence" are fallacious at best. It may not be pocketable for YOU. It's extremely pocketable for ME.

I can pocket carry the Shield in my shorts pockets, but not in jeans. I'm 5'11" and 200lbs with a 36" waist.

I've sold a ton of pocket holsters over the years, but I do consider this gun a belt gun for me.

Gunnut, id love to know what you paid. If thats legit on the forum. Wondering if there is enough margin for prices to come down off the 400 mark or if msrp is already so low that the prices will hold. And thanks for the in depth comparisons. I've been looking for a ccw 9. At first I was against striker fired but this m&p is looking really promising.

I'm really thinking $399 will be the norm once supply catches up with demand, maybe $375 from real low margin dealers.

Who cares what gun is the most pocketable?

Pocket carry is THE worst way to carry a gun.

Quite a few of us. If I'm belt carrying I'll go with my G26...a shorter, more concealable frame with 10+1 on tap and two 17 rounders on my belt. .2" extra thickness doesn't make a damn bit of difference on a belt with a good holster.

Hey fellow buckeye....
(born in Ohio, but now in Texas)

Pocket carry isnt the preferred way, but if i have to tuck in a shirt, its much easier to toss a pistol in a pocket holster and put it in the pocket.

There are also times that i am just running to the store and dont want to clip on the supertuck to take out th M&P45c

I have a CM9 today which fits the bill for pocket carry. However, i am not enthralled with
the long trigger. Forget a true doubletap.

I was hoping that the shield would have put one or two less rounds in the gun, but offered an extended mag that would have made everyone happy.

I may still buy a shield, but they would have clobbered a huge market and differentiated themslves even more with this option

I'm a little dissapointed by the size. I went from a PF9 to an LC9 due to reliablity issues and find the LC9 to really be at the limit of pocket carry without an excessive bulge. I can't stand the Lc9 trigger so considered the Khar but the vertical feed ramp and reported reliability issues turned me away. The Shield had my hopes up but think it will probably be too big.

Yep. No one is even remotely trying to one-up Kahr on their pocket sized 9mm's. I will stick with Kahr until someone does.

Sure they have. Both the Diamondback 9mm and the Rohrbaugh R9 are smaller than the Kahr CM/PM.

The problem is that the really small 9mm's really mess with reliability. Either the gun has issues or the shooter isn't able to handle the recoil and induces problems.

I'm sure S&W realized this and didn't want to spend considerable money working on guns that have problems or trying to fix things that the shooter is causing.

+100. I sold my PM9 because I needed money/I'm a grad student who can't carry on-campus. I wish I hadn't. You're right, nobody's come close for size & reliability. I'd love a PM9/CM9 sized gun with a Glock-like trigger, but alas, it's not to be (for now)...oh wells.

That's funny, my PM9 was great. 100% reliable. And I could "handle the recoil" just fine, thankyouverymuch. I agree that the Diamondback DB9's are GARBAGE, but that's one company making one crappy gun. An indictment of all pocket-nines it is not.

Interesting reading ...

But not real relevant.

As S&W has never advertised this gun as a "Pocket" carry gun. :what:

I don't know where that came from.

Congratulations on your new gun.

It's a nice gun.

My two local gun stores have these now. They just came in yesterday. I almost came home with one. They look like the best small CCW for my use.... My wife is going to kill me...lol. Might just go back today and pick one up...

Well, it is all good but it's all theory to most of us until there are guns in our hands. The initial 3,000 in the first batch for the launch was way under estimating the market and note that there are, at least, 100K gun dealers in the US; so, there is not even enough for each gun dealer to get one each.

It'll be interesting to see how S&W churns out this Shield to meet the demands of the market in the next 6 months without losing quality.
