S&W M&P vs. Beretta Px4 vs. FN FNP

Hi, all! I'm currently looking at purchasing a .40 S&W handgun and have narrowed it down to these three choices. The Smith and Wesson M&P, the Beretta Px4, and the FN Herstal FNP. I would like to see some peoples opinions on these three firearms and which they prefer. I've only gotten my hands on the M&P and the Px4, so far, but am going to try and hold an FNP when my dealer gets in his shipment. And please no "Get a Glock" comments, as the Glocks just don't suit my hand that well, and are too "Blocky" for me. So please, I would like to see some opinions on these guns. And please explain your choice in the thread. Thanks!

I have no practical experience with the FNP or the Beretta. My PD is about to switch over to the M&P40 as a duty weapon, though, so I have a little experience with it.

It is a good gun. Great ergonomics, good trigger (very good, for a duty gun), reliable. There have been a few teething problems (light primer strikes, loose magazine floorplates), but by and large they seem to be ironing them out just fine. S&W has very good customer service, and they recognize that the M&P is their best chance to recover the LE marketshare they lost over the past 20 years to Glock, et. al., so they are pretty dedicated to making this gun work. If you're unlucky enough to get one with a problem, they'll fix it. Most of the ones I've seen run like tops. We have one that they tried to destroy in a torture test. They ran out of ammo before the gun broke. It still shoots just fine.

As far as the FNP...I really cannot imagine FN making a bad weapon. They always seem to put out a quality product. Beretta never really did anything for me, but I think that's just personal preference.

I have the M&P and the FNP. Both are great guns. The M&P had issues strait from the factory (slide locked back on a full magazine on a regular basis). It is very comfortable and shoots great with very little recoil.

The FNP (mine was in 9mm) is ultra accurate and reliable. It points naturally for me.

Both are great guns.

I have no experience with the Beretta.

I just took my M&P .40 cal to the range over the weekend and shot about 450 rounds through it and it shot perfectly, not one hiccup. You can also experiment with the different grip sizes which I think is a nice touch. All in all it is a very nice shooter, comfortable, reliable, and easy to shoot without too much recoil. I am glad I bought it.

I don't have any experience with the other guns you mentioned so I can't help you there.

I just bought a PX-4 in 9mm last week. It's only been about 200 rounds, but the ergos are decent, I had no malfunctions, and accuracy was consistent on a soda can at 25 yards. Interchangeable backstraps come standard as well, so the grip is customizable for the shooter. I want to get more range time in but I don't know if that'll be possible since my girlfriend "adopted" it for herself after that first range session:
