FBI shoot out can be talked about elsewhere unless talking about a S&W 13.
here is mine with a 65 and Ruger SP101

Would be second choice over a 13

"What's the finish on that 12? Also, did you have problems fitting those boot grips? My 12 is slightly narrower in the grip frame."

The finish is flat earth cerro-coat...this revolver was a basket case when I found it. The grips did require some time on the belt sander but the I got lucky and found a set of Pachmyers made for the older skinny frame gun.

I do mean basket case...was a suicide gun that wasn't cleaned under the grips...

If I had a 3" 65 or 13 it would be my carry gun. I have a very nice 4" 65 and would trade in a hart beat.

The same revolver is also available on second-hand market for .38Spl and 9x19 cartridges.
I have seen blued L-framed version of that in .357 caliber. The common denominator is fixed rear sight and "bull" barrel. These are neat "little" revolvers no doubt about it.

A model 65 has been my truck gun for several years now. With 140-158gr bullets its dead nuts on to the fixed sights. For a self defense revolver its about as good as it gets.

And for those who had said the small service grips (is that what they are called?) are of no use I would have agreed with you in the past. But someone here posted that those grips are for hip shooting. And you know what? They were correct. They do work when drawing and firing low below your line of sight. But when you extend your arm and want to shoot single action I always have to shift the gun in my hand. So I guess for modern shooting technique the bigger grips are better. But just for fun if you have the smaller grips give them a session shooting from the hip.

The new Model R8 is far superior HD gun. It has three significant advantages: non-reflective finish, integral light/laser module rail and eight shot capacity. If I ever buy another revolver it will be S&W M&P R8.

The Model 13 isn't a "superior HD gun." It is a PERFECT DEFENSE GUN.

Don't think you're going to conceal the R8 easily.

Ok. I admit the 9x19 with 4" bull barrel was almost weird enough for me to buy. It would make excellent defensive weapon which by definition most revolvers of suitable caliber and size are. We all know in offensive handgun realm if indeed there is such a thing guns like hc Glock rule supreme.

Pablo,

I turned in my issued Glock 22 in order to draw a S&W 686. The 686 is more accurate than the Glock, and I can fire it faster than a Glock will cycle. The .357 Magnum loads are also more powerful than the .40 S&Ws. I have had police officers who also carry Glock 22s enviously ask how I managed to get the 686 issued to me. I just smile and tell them that old men don't mess around with combat tupperware.
