Well, I finally got to pick up my 17-4 today. It has an 8 3/8 barrel and the larger target stocks. Trigger and hammer are the narrower ones (at least narrower than the very wide trigger/hammer on my 27-2). The long barrel balances very well for me. The large grips fit my hands very well too. I didn't really shoot for groups. Just plinking at one of those pendulum metal targets. Seems very accurate and the trigger is GREAT, both in single and double action. Finish is in good shape, has a couple of small scratches, but that is OK. This will not be a safe queen. Here is a picture of my new toy:

I have been wanting one for a while, and vowed not to let another slip by. I paid what they were asking - $280 which I think was fair. Still on the lookout for a 6" model to go with it.

makarov- man that's a sweet ride. I've a later model 17 with the full under lug and I definitely prefer the longer, un-lugged barrel; it just looks, well, graceful, somehow.

And I really like the classic over size target grips too.

Yep. I like the 6", too. I had one 20-25 years ago, but had to sell it to pay the rent. I just replaced it. Found one with the target trigger & hammer, & adjustable sights. Now I'm on the lookout for a matching 19...
