A co-worker has a Model 19 he wants to sell. Says he paid $225.00 for it 20+ yrs. ago. He's considering letting go for $200.00. It's a 4" SS model 19. Says he's fired maybe 4 or 5 boxes of magnum rds. through it. I told him I'd have to see it first but, if it's what he says it is, it sounds like a good deal. What do you think?

Buy it. If it is in that great a shape, it's a steal at $200, whatever model it is, probably a 66.

It must be nickel because he said it was definately a model 19. If I can get my hot little hands on it, it's mine. I won't believe it until I actually see it and give him the money.

Even if it needs some work (timing, end shake), BUY IT!!! As long as the forcing cone isn't cracked, you can send it back to S&W for any repairs it may need. $200? This guy doesn't know what he has, unless it is in very rough shape. Good condition nickle 4" Model 19s go for DOUBLE this price in my area, and even $400 isn't a bad price these days.

Maybe he thinks since it is an "obsolete old man gun" that it isn't worth much. I saw a nice 4" Model 28 not long ago selling for $250 at a gunshow :what:. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford it at the time :banghead: . DOH!

Check it out and buy it. It must be a nickel one. They run in the $450 range these days.

I have a Mod 19 Nickel plated 2 1/2" and I wouldn't part with it for $600...Nice handgun and a dream to shoot. Get it!!! Even if it turns out to be a Mod 66 or even any of the other K frame S&W...$200 is a steel...

I'd already have that one blended into my Smith accumulation and wouldn't even pose the question. :)

BUY IT NOW!

My 19-4 cost me $350 and I thought that was a deal. My 66 was $425. Granted both are practically new and still in the boxes, but thats enough about me. Buy the dang gun.

To give you another price comparison, I recently paid $229 and $239 for two different Model 10's. They are probably old police revolvers, as they show the holster wear. These are standard .38's.

Take the .357 for $200.

Grab it.

That's probably nickel plate, not stainless. The stainless is, ah, I think the Model 66.

I picked up a 19-4 (I think. If not, it's a 19-3), 4 or 5 years ago, for $200. Not pristine by any means, but a very sweet shooter.

I picked up a pristine S&W 4" factory nickel model 19-3 (ANIB) with all docs,
back in December of '07 for $350. The only thing it was missing was the S&W
"tool kit" [screwdriver, wool mop-with handle]; and that was a steal in my
area. Run, don't walk- on over, and snatch this 19 (or 66~?) up before it
gets away~! ;) :D

FWIW, Out of the same collection where as I purchased the S&W 19-3, I also
purchased a 4" factory nickel, pencil barrel model 10-5; with a C737xxx S/N
indicating a birth date between 1963-1965 (before S&W was bought out by
Bangor-Punta). Its in the same "classic" conditon as the 19-3, with walnut
square butt diamond wood grips. I gave a mere $200 for this beauty~!

Once in a blue moon

By all means buy! This is a sweet deal, a model 19 @ this price is fantastic, a model 66 would be more than you could ever ask for. I'm a model 19 fan, if you don't buy it I would in a heartbeat! You can never have too much of a good thing. Good luck. NRA PATRON LIFE MEMBER

Slow down.

Check the forcing cone carefully for a crack at 6:00. If the forcing cone is cracked, consider passing on the gun. No more Model 19 barrels are available from Smith & Wesson.

If the forcing cone is OK, then buy it quickly and say "Thank you sir." Then ask if he has any ammunition he no longer needs. Model 19s are escalating wildly in value. This was the revolver known as the Combat Magnum, inspired and designed by Bill Jordan.

Here are my two Model 19-4s

I just bought a model 19-3 with a 4 inch for $300 and love it. If it's in good shape that's an excellent price. And some of the earlier posters are right on the money about the checking the cone for crackes. Everything written about the model says to make sure to check exactly that and to keep it on a diet of 158 grain .38 special +P to mid .357 ammo.

and if you find cracked forcing cones!!

If anyone finds one with a cracked forcing cone let me know if its for sale. If the frame is not damaged I still would be interested in buying it (cheaply of course). I simply love working on the Model 19 S&W. A Clarke barrelled 19 is a sweet shooter.
