S&W Model 22A-1

I wandered into a small shop in a town about 1.5 hours from home today.
I was in town doing some service work so thought I'd stop.
I ended up taking home a S&W 22A-1.
The price was good, and I was looking at Victory models lately as I'm kind of a Smith & Wesson fanboy. This one needed a home and I had cash so why not.
First 200 rounds through it and no hiccups so I'm pretty happy. Even hit the 100 yard steel target a few times offhand.
Anyone else have one of these and care to share your experiences?
MAN, I have no idea what these guys are talking about. I sold probably 20 to 30 of these WHEN THEY WERE STILL MADE, not one came back and in my case my policy was, return it to me and I would bitch to the co for you. I and my wife have put THOUSANDS of rounds through ours with MAYBE 2 or 3 jams, guess those boys bought a sub model? of a fantastic gun, HA HA or maybe Hi Point made them also

I bought a 22 A last year that looked new. With a 2x scope on it it shoots with my scoped Ruger MK IV Target off of a rest at 25 yards. The Ruger has a Volquartson trigger kit in it and it's trigger is a bit better than the Smith. Shooting CCI SV they print almost identical sized groups. It hasn't hiccuped at all. I wish I could find something like the Talo ring made for the Rugers because racking the slide hurts my finger and thumb. That is the only complaint I have about the gun and am glad I bought it. I've been scratching my head about how to build a ring that will work and will probably make an attempt to do so now that the weather is warming up. I have to do something to occupy my time. It's spring time on the south plains and that means wind and more wind.

Brownell's had the best price I could find for the buffers and I stocked up on them.

I lucked into one while being an RO at the International Revolver Championships. Smith & Wesson sold them to all the officials for $ 50 apiece.

It's a great little gun and you should get lots of use out of it. Keep it clean and it will run forever.

I have since given it to my son and he gave it to my granddaughter.

Just a quick note here ..

S&W made both the .22/a and the .22/s.

They both look exactly the same - but - the /s is stainless steel & the /a is an alloy.

Over the years, I've seen a lot of people having trouble with the /a - & not so many having trouble with the /s.

Mine is nothing but trouble. After 50 rounds it fails every third shot, Went back to the factory and it came right back in the same condition. UNRELIABLE.
