Hello

I currently have a S&W Stealth Hunter in jail for 10 days, and I am curious about the sights.

This revolver has a rear sight blade that is adjustable for windage and elevation, and it also has a "drift adjustable" front sight blade mounted in a dovetail. I don't understand why they made it so windage is adjustable at both ends of the weapon.

Anyone know why they did this, or why you would want to do anything but keep the front blade centered while adjusting the rear for windage?

Thanks
Michael

That's possible, but most of the other Model 629s have quick change (tool-less) blades. Just wondering why they did it differently on this particular 629.

EDIT: Looks like they put that drift-adjustable front sight on all the Performance Center revolvers.

I see just as many P.C. models with pinned front sights as I do with the dovetailed. So much for that theory. Might have to do with being able on hunting type models to adjust the front sight to get more adjustment from the rear. May be so one can drift the front sight to keep the rear sight more centered. May be the profile of the barrel on certain models makes the dovetailed sight a must. May just be an esthetics thingy.

My TRR8 357 has the quick change sights (from the Performance Center) and I've had the front blade come loose, but never fallen out, if it got snagged on something. They may be going to a stouter design on higher recoiling guns like the 44s with Al alloy frames.

The Stealth has a fiberoptic sight, right, so I'll bet the dovetail is so it can be replaced with a tritium for even darker circumstances or a gold bead for target shooting.

No, the Steath Hunter doesn't have a fiber optic front sight. It is a red ramp blade:

It's not an aluminum alloy frame either, it's stainless steel.
