A friend brought a S&W for me to identify and get a value for. After much searching and research, I discovered it was a Terrier model! A .38 S&W in a .32 frame. The finish is not great as it has some surface rust but is very tight and indexes perfectly. Best I could come up with was a street value of around $350. Does that sound about right?

Per the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd ed. which is now a year old:
The Pre-War models S.N.'s 38976 - 54474
ANIB $1750
EXC $500
VG $325
GOOD $250
FAIR $165
POOR $90

The Post-War models S.N.'s 54474 - 122678
ANIB $500
EXC $400
VG $295
GOOD $235
FAIR $150
POOR $85

Without being able to determine its condition, to give you a value is a crap shoot. Condition, locale, and what the buyer is willing to pay establishes the value.

edit: Be advised that the chambering is a.38 S&W not a .38 S&W Special, if your not aware, there is a difference.

Thanks. It looks like if he got $350, he will have done pretty good. We know about the .38 S&W VS. .38 special thing. He has several .38 S&W's including a 4th model top-break safety in pretty darned bad condition. :p
