The pistol and rig captured from the hip of Saddam should be presented to President Bush and the two AK-47s should go to the Smithsonian and the National Firearms Museum; one to each.

Otherwise the pistol will eventually end up on E-Bay.

How do we, as just a bunch of ordinary Americans, encourage this to occur? Who do we approach?

Has anyone confirmed if Saddam had his favorite HiPower with him, or was it something different?

Ewww, I hope you'd want them encased in Lucite before taking possession of those items.

Not likely...

Unless you're speaking metaphorically, Jim. E-Bay hasn't allowed firearms to be auctioned on that site for a LONG time. ;)

Now, auctionarms.com may be an alternative venue.

Actually I had forgotten that fact but if something of that historical importance, and which would sell at an astronomical price, E-Bay would likely turn its head and allow it to be auctioned there. The fees and free publicity would be too much of an incentive for them to pass up.

They need to go to the 4th Infantry Division's museum. They are not of significance to go to the Smithsonian. To send them there would make Saddam more important then the two bit tyrant he was.

Saddam was/is an evil man. but his personal firearms or any other artifacts aren't worth display in the Smithsonian.

I agree with Jeff. Hussein's sidearm would be more significant in the hands of the division that captured him.

One of the AK's should actually to to Tony Blair ... one of the few world leaders who had the B@!!$ to stand with us on Iraq.

"I think it should be mounted on Pres. Bush's wall." That spot should be reserved for his head ...

What about the rest of his rifles?? Did we ever find them? He had an awesome collection of old Mausers end SMLE's. I remember footage of him or one of his clones capping off rounds from a rare Iranian Mauser carbine.

Uh uh . . . Bush lives in Washington, D.C., doesn't he? As his official residence? Giving it to him would be illegal - AS IT WOULD BE FOR ANY OTHER CITIZEN IN OUR NATION'S CAPITAL. (Even as "Commander in Chief" he's still technically a civilian, isn't he? If not, can a soldier living in D.C. obtain a pistol legally?)

I agree with Jeff...send the pistol and at least one of the AKs to the 4ID museum. Sending the other to the National Firearms Museum, or maybe to the (still being built) US Army museum is also a good idea.

Nobody has said so, but I'd venture a guess that the AKs actually belonged to the two guards who were caught by the cordon when they ran away from the house.

I just find it funny how the press seems amazed that Saddam was found with *Gasp* TWO AK-47S AND A PISTOL!

Though I remember reading somewhere that a lot of the reporters over there are "uncomfortable" being around so may guns.

As far as giving Saddams' guns to Bush/Blair, unfortunately it wouldn't be "PC"; the days of weapons as war souveniers are gone, much to my dismay....

"that spot should be reserved for his head...."

"Hehe, this one gonna give your taxi-dermie man a heart attack"-Jaws (can't remember the fishermans name)

Or we could hand his pistol and AKs over to the sovereign Iraqi government (when one comes about) along with the man. After the trial, they can be instruments of justice. I think there is a semblance of poetic justice in that (although there is always one of his torture chambers for that purpose, I suppose).
