So, I installed a back-of-door organizer panel for my safe. Was made by (or at least sold by) the same company that makes my safe, Liberty.
I only have one question: Why did I not do this sooner?
Thing installed in about 2 minutes, fits perfect and just opened up a crap-ton of useful space in my safe.
Also put in a motion-activated light and a couple of those under-shelf gun hangers. Now I'm ordering one of those under-shelf baskets.
Dang, dudes ... sometimes I am late to the party. o_O

The more usable space in the safe let me take a bunch of stuff from on top the safe, which let me tidy up my bench.
Got an under-shelf basket at the Academy today and switched from from the motion-activated light bar off Amazon to 3 little dome lights with a remote that I picked up at Lowe's. Stuck the remote to the safe exterior with a bit of Velcro.
For such an easy little project, the office/gun room just got a lot tidier and things are suddenly easier to lay my mitts on.
Mind blown.

I have two shelves of handguns in my safe, so I needed to get a bunch of these Snap Safe handgun racks to hold them upright or they would be stacked on top of each other.

I condensed the shelves tighter together to fit the second shelf in over my carbine-long gun side for J frame and small autos. I had to cut 1” off the legs of all the racks with a cutting wheel on my angle grinder. Now they’ll clear the tighter spaces with juuuuust enough height to keep the hammers from touching the shelves. (The vaquero hammer on the left is about a credit card width above the shelf.)

Since I have them stacked double deep, I use the 2-4 gun size mostly, as they’re easier to lift out and move with guns in them so I can get to the second row in the back.

I also added a couple of the harbor freight led battery powered lights to the inside. These make it a whole lot easier to see when I’m rooting around in there. (One is visible under the top shelf.)

Stay safe.

My safe has an organizer on the door from the factory. Room enough for 6 handguns, magazines, small part bags, documents etc. Makes a big difference on organization. I can see where it would be annoying hanging rifles there, but for handguns and small (easy to lose) stuff, it is great.

Better late than never!

Of course the old adage applies that "Stuff" will expand to fill the space provided..............:p

I've actually gotten rid of a few long guns I wasn't shooting ... but somehow managed to pick up my second Shield and my second LCP.
And now I'm eyeballing a Kidd Super Grade .22.
It does seem there's never a net reduction, that's for sure.

Yep organizers and racks free up space and make storage a breeze. Having an electrical outlet in the safe is a huge plus for led lighting and golden rod. It's also very easy to add if you don't already have it...

Safes/storage organizers can be such a love hate relationship, especially with too many guns. I find organizers help, but things can still be crowded. I guess the ones that I added that made the most improvement were the door organizers and rifle rods.

I've got three Canon safes and one "Stop Thief" which was an off brand safe that my wife started selling at least 50 years ago, and it went over like a lead balloon, you had to build your interior and insert it in the safe to store weapons, or jewelry etc. It was pretty well made safe with a Sergeants & Greenleaf dial. The other three safes all had the additional door organizer already installed, as well as rifle vertical rack for one rifle as well. I do like the idea of the pistol pouches on the doors of those safes, however I still use the three shelf model to store some of my larger pistols. Incidentally you may ask why I've got four gun safes, well having been a retired police detective that worked burglary for a good number of years, I noticed that most home burglars were "grab and run" type, and I figured that by having four "gun safes" they would just grab what they could and get the heck out. Oh and yes, they are all anchored down, as well as the little home safe which would be safe number 5 to be technical.

If you haven't discovered "Rifle Rods" yet, they are a game changer. I was skeptical of them when they came out, but reached a point where I had to try "something", and now I'm a proponent. They offer more room, less banging - nicks - dings, and far easier gun access than conventional factory "rack" style insets.

I'm wondering what everyone's opinion is on these. I just took delivery of my new Liberty safe and the system used by the manufacturer leave me wanting something better.

I have long guns, meaning length, not type (think flintlock) and I have short ones (AR15). In theory the safe is supposed to hold 40 guns, but only if you have them stacked three deep. Inevitably, the rifle I want is in the back. And some don't even fit due to the angle necessary to slip them under the shelf that functions as the barrel rest.

I need to ditch the current arrangement but I'm undecided on what the best replacement is.

I'm thinking a more traditional rack would work:

But then I think maybe the "Rifle Rods" would be better.

Opinions and experiences welcome.

I cut and fitted a piece of peg board to the inside of my door. I use 1/4inch hooks and bought a roll of 1/4inch rubber vacuum line to cover the hooks. It works well.

Thanks for this, i just inherited a 25 gun safe and am trying to figure out how to set it up.

Since that was posted I had to add another safe that’s a bit smaller than your new 25-gun model for my growing handgun collection.

I used the screw-in shelf rack system and 5 wood shelves from Home Depot, along with 6 of the snap safe 8-gun racks (that I cut the legs down lower) to squeeze the stash into this safe. I added two of the motion-sensing battery powered LED lights with a magnet mount to the inside so it lights up when I reach inside.

5 shelves and the floor gives me room for 48 handguns that are Glock 17L/6” 1911 sized or smaller. :)

Stay safe.

I keep my handguns in individual zip up gun rugs and stack them on top of one another in the safe. I grab whichever one I want and toss them in the car when I want to go shoot. They are already ready.

I recently added a new safe so that I could have a dedicated handgun safe and a dedicated long gun safe.

Now I have racks on shelves as shown above for semi-auto and shorter barreled revolvers and open shelves for scoped revolvers and T/C Contenders. I'm thinking I may add drawers for the long barreled handguns just to make access a little easier.

Nice! Amazing how few handling dings your guns get with that bit of extra room.

The safe above is too shallow for anything more than a 4” revolver or 6” auto. Those Contender barrels would need to go sideways or vertically to fit in mine.

The drawer idea is a great one, show us your handiwork when you’re done. :)

Stay safe.

I think those would work along with, the style that hangs under the shelving? It's a metal rack of 4 posts that the barrel slides onto. Racked pistols could be butt up such as in posts
#4 &16 with the rods spaced in between those, hanging from above. One up, one down and so forth. Would it work? Dunno, just an idea & using dead space!
