SafePacker

I use one backpacking, and highly recommend it. Most of the time, other hikers are none the wiser.

I have used one previously and also do so while backpacking. Primarily with a MK series Kahr or a j frame. They use the same size safepacker. Hidden in plain sight. I hate pocket holsters for the most part as I fell I keep to much junk in them already

I have one for my Sig, works well, as noted above, does not look like a holster. Not a real speedy draw, but not made to be. It is very secure though and protects the pistol well.

I've had one for a few months for my XD-9. A great bag for storage or moving to and from the car. Discreet carry, no way. What else could be in that package? It's a well made product but I wouldn't even think about walking around in public with one of these on my belt. I'd love to have someone convince me otherwise but to me it's like a fanny pack labeled "here's the gun". I spent $50 on this thing, please tell me I'm wrong!

I've go one that fits my Kimber Compact/SIG 228/HK USP45C, walked around VT two weeks ago with it on a shoulder strap, no one noticed, even my family just hought it was the Eagle Creek bag I nornally carry. I added a little carabiner for my keys, so it just looks very ordinary. It is a bit big and clunky for on-belt wear, but as mentioned, it's quite discrete for moving gun to/from car.

I also have a DeSantis EZRider for my Tomcat. It's paddle mounted, for easy on & off and as mentioned, it looks like something for a PalmPilot, goes completly unnoticed.

Why would you not want to carry a P32 in a pocket holster. To me some of these rigs scream "GUN!" and that Palm Pilot lookalike looks like a nightmare to draw from.

With pocket holsters, everything is concealed and you can slip your hand onto the grip if you see potential trouble approaching whilst making it appear that you're just casually strolling along with your hand in your pocket. If you need to draw, the gun comes from nowhere, and it comes fast.

I'm gonna have to look at this thing. It sure looks a lot more stealthy than my MMM fannypack.

I'll get by the Mesquite gunshow this weekend and see for myself, provided somebody has one there.

Regards,
Rabbit.

Skunkabilly, how do you like it? What are you carrying in it? I have been looking for something JUST LIKE that, to carry a GLOCK 26 or 19 in.

Is it as bad as huaco describes it. I wear shorts and t-shirt all the time, and have a hard time concealing them. Nothing like hide in the open.

that Palm Pilot lookalike looks like a nightmare to draw from.

American handgunner did a small review on it, It was supposedly very easy and quick. It was actually partially designed by one of the guys from american handgunner.

Its NOT a traditinal ccw holster, its designed for carrying a gun while you are doing S&R work, your gun won't scare the folks you are rescuing, and nothing protrudes to catch in rapelling lines, etc.

And when I backpack, I like to have a gun handy that won't scare the other hikers. Safepaker looks like the way to go.

Question about Palm Pilot Carry

This is a little off the topic but I have always had a problem with gun carry in something that looks like something else. What if someone asks you to see what the palm pilot looks like. You know, "Hey, what model do you have there?", kind of thing.

If I were carrying among strangers, I wouldn't really care as no one will probably ask you about it. But when carrying among people familiar to you, I think that it is highly probable someone will accidently call your bluff. What do you think?

Thanks.

Well the only people that might ask me that I would care if I hurt their feelings by saying "no" would be ones that know or could guess that I carry.

The other thing is that you can honestly say that you "don't let other people use it for security reasons". :)

Back in pre-CCW days they were legal to use for carry in AZ as they were marketed as a holster/scabbard. A firearm wasn't considered concealed if the holster was partially visible. Even the Atty. Gen. issued a positive opinion about its legality. The 2 smaller sizes carry well on the belt and I could comfortably wear one all day with a J-frame or a Colt Diamondback. The larger sizes are too cumbersome for belt carry IMHO. At one time they made a smaller one for .25's and other mouseguns called either "Storekeeper" or "Shopkeeper" I believe. Used it for my TPH. I still use them on occasion, especially in the summer.

They are excellent handgun cases as they are very well made and durable. They may seem a little pricey but the four I have have been well worth it.

I'd like to get back into this subject and say that I agree with Chris completely that the Safepacker is a great soft pistol case. After making the rather strong statement that the Safepacker is not a great discreet carry method I realize that my post was more negative than I intended it to be though I did say some good things about it. I too have thought about getting another or two for my other pistols in spite of the fact that I think a LEO or BG and even some others might recognise it as an indication that I am carrying. I've seen the words "concealed is concealed" many times and that means it needs to be done very well. That precludes mystery bags, noticable bulges, and obvious gun outlines in pockets. In these forums I see a tendency to divide people into categories of sheeple who see nothing and us in guys who see it all. The fact is that it's more complicated than that because there are people who are intelligent and very observant that don't like guns. There are also criminals who are intelligent and observant who will target someone they think is carrying and LEOs who will notice the signs and see a danger because they don't know if we are legal or not until they ask. If you want to buyy a Safepacker do so but realize that it is not the ultimate concealed carry solution. Despite what I said earlier I don't regret buying one even though I bought it expecting too much. Maybe I'm wierd. I don't do sneaky very often but when I do it I try to do it well.

I carry a Palm IIIxe every day at work in a zippered case that fits in my shirt chest pocket. I used to take comfort in the fact that a P32 could easily replace the PDA in that case and that I had a foolproof carry method if I needed it. It's verboten to carry at work, btw.

One day my boss, who is a gun owner too, and knowledgable about concealed carry (but one of these annoying souls who votes Democrat and thinks we don't need "assault rifles") is standing next to me, reaches out and picks the case out of my shirt pocket, and unzips it to examine the contents. Of course my Palm was there, but I believe he suspected something else. There's a moral to this story.

Dan

The moral is, your boss obviously is not from the South, or he would not have been rude enough to touch someone else's property. If he had, he would have been shown the error of his ways.
