I have been researching for a new purchase safe and reading the mountains of info and posts from 2009 to 2011 but don't see real life experiences with the door seals .

One concern I have is the use of the Pausol seals. I recently met a gentleman in the local hardware store . His safe 1-1/2 fire rated ( without the seal ) was in the house fire. When he got it open 3-4 hrs later. the contents were severely damaged with creosote. It took him days of soaking and scrubbing and they still are nowhere near the original condition. Not to mention the documents , cameras, jewelry. He said he was putting the seal on the replacement safe. Does anyone have any experience or info refuting or corroborating this experience. Has this seal made a difference?

Thanks

Why do you have a concern about a fire seal? They've been widely used for years. I wouldn't own a gun safe without a Palusol fire seal. Like the majority of folks, I've never had a house fire.

I'm also completely aware that the average $1k or $2k gun safe isn't going to provide much protection, except from the smash-and-grabbers. But every little bit helps.

John ,Thanks for the input, Not to many safes offer the Palusol seal. Liberty,Winchester. Just needing to compare apples to apples

The fire seals won't do you much good if the safe itself won't keep the heat out. If fire protection is a high priority, then you should stop looking at gun safes, and start looking at safes that carry an actual UL fire rating.
