Safeties on Marlin rifles... can you get rid of them?

I remember reading somewhere that there is a gunsmith who gets rid of the crossbolt safeties on Marlin rifles. Does anyone know who this guy is?
I did have a 336 with the safety. I will admit that it didn't cause me any trouble but I can see how it could accidentally get put on and then cause problems when you go to shoot.
I would just as soon have it simplified and not have to worry about it.
Also, other than probably voiding any warranties, would there be any legal concerns with doing this?
Thanks.

There may be a smith that can do it, but there is a kit you can do your self. Check the marlin board, I don't remember who I ordered mine from. They work great. - Ian

There is (or at least was) an outfit making a "drop-in" part that replaced the crossbolt safety on newer Marlin LAs. IIRC, it wasn't expensive and just sort of filled the hole where the safety had been.

While I remember seeing ads for them in a couple of the magazines fairly recently, and a small blurb review too, I only scanned them in passing. Both of my own Marlin LAs are older models, so I didn't have any personal reason to file the information away for future reference. Sorry.

You might turn it up with a search on the Brownell's web site or one of the dedicated Marlin forums. That is, if the Bottom Feeding Tort Lawyer's Association hasn't managed to run the maker out-of-business yet.

Hope that this is of some help. Sorry I couldn't provide more specifics.

I never thought it would matter until one day last fall I didn't have my old pre-safety 336 fully anchored on the half cock notch. The hammer fell the last quarter inch and dented the primer. So I am not complaining at all the new 1895 has the cross bolt safety.

It is, as Art would say "garbage" until you need it.

If you're just wanting to always know the gun's ready to go, you might want to use a small "o ring". Take the gun off safety, then slip the o-ring over the protruding safety. As I recall, there's a small detent around the safety that keep the o-ring from moving. Keeps you from engaging the safety. Costs a nickel, isn't visible, you can't accidentally engage the safety, and you haven't effected the value or function of the weapon.

I don't object to an external safety. But the Marlins have always HAD an external safety. It's called the hammer. The absurd little button by the trigger only makes the rifle more dangerous, as it encourages shooters to fiddle around near the trigger when there's a round in the chamber. If they HAD to put a stupid safety on the rifle, it should have been up on the tang.

I can see the use if you are loading or unloading but I do worry about it getting engaged and causing a failure.
I want to get a carbine to serve as a HD weapon and I don't like the idea of something like that getting me shot.
I was thinking that you might be able to slip an e-clip or a c-clip over it to hold it over where it is supposed to be.
I will run a search and see what I can turn up. I have a few months because I can't afford one yet.
Thanks.

BTW- the link is a little off. It did help me find the site though so thanks. Here is the good link incase anyone wants it.
