Howdy Gents,

I am thinking of getting rid of a rifle I don't shoot very often. I have a Marlin XS7 in .308 and I like the rifle but my shooting just does not revolve around this rifle. I have taken it out probably 4 times since I purchased it and have put maybe 160 rounds through it. I don't have the chance to really hunt and while I have access to a long range, 200M-1000M, I just never get out there as most of my shooting has been with handguns the past year. Does it make sense to keep the rifle anymore or does it sound practical to get rid of it? I am not sure that I will regret selling the rifle since it mainly since in my gun case.

Prepare for the deluge of posts saying 'NEVER SELL A GUN!'. If you don't use it, dump it for something you will use. Have I ever regretted selling a gun? Sure: Colt SSA, Pasadena AutoMag, Devine M1A, 03A3, Garand, you name it. But that's all water under the bridge and past fixing. Get what you want and enjoy.

My personal opinion.

If you need $$ for food, rent, bills, or just to help support your family in general (and you have no use for the firearm), then by all means sell it and take care of your family!!

If it is that, you just do not ever fire it and really have no use for the rifle, then sell it and use the $$ to purchase a firearm that you will SHOOT.

If you do this, you should have no regrets, and no seller's remorse.

Its not how many you own, it how many you have owned.

You can only shoot one at a time!

But do replace it with another gun!

It's not rare or difficult to replace....sell.

Bingo, it's not like you're getting ready to sell an irreplaceable rifle, if worse comes to worst and you realize that you had some deep unconscious need for this rifle you could always pick up a new one. I say Sell.

I've sold a lot of guns, I like to try different types and makes. The ones that I really like stay, the ones that I don't move on, I really don't regret any of my sales, the proceeds always get recycled back into my gun fund and turned into a new toy.

My advice is never sell a gun you will probably end up buying again. If you bought it for the sake of owning a gun of that type, and don't immediately need the money for something more important, hold on to it. I've often thought that some posters here could buy the gun of their dreams with the money it costs them to be constantly buying and selling guns.

I was going to make a post about selling off my Mosin collection to build a suppressed AR in .300 blackout. I never shoot the Mosins. Never. If I shoot 7.62x54r, I shoot my Finns. This thread helped me make my decision. Anyone looking for some Mosins? :)

I'd sell the Mosins and keep the 308. Reason being that the Mosins are more akin to a Harbor Freight tool.
