I just installed a professionally reworked trigger\hammer\disconn in my ar15. The safety lever cannot be moved\engaged all the way forward, only halfway. Whether upper is on or not, cocked or uncocked. I did not remove the safety when removing\installing trigger. Am I missing something really simple here?

First, the safety should only be able to engage when the hammer is in the cocked position. Was this fire control group installed and working in the rifle before? It's not unusual for the back part of the trigger to be too high and cause the problem that you are describing. In fact, when I encountered the problem it was infact on a Rock River lower. I wonder if there's a connection.

In any case, I think we need to know whether it was working in the rifle before it was "reworked."

Reworked by whom? Bill Springfield? Did you buy the parts from him and do the work on those parts?

Yes, it worked prior to the rework. Yes it was a Bill Springfield job. I am assuming I was sent the same trigger back.

So you didn't send the whole lower; just the trigger parts?

I would cock the hammer and then drop the pistol grip and remove the selector; make sure the detent channel is clear of debris, etc, and that the detent and spring are installed correctly.

Yes, I emailed Bill but hes not real fast with emails in my experience, not like week-long slow but not always the next day.

I will try what ny. just suggested later today as well. Thanks.

If it went in and worked before, my knee jerk reaction would be that he sent you a new FCG that he worked on. This is assuming that there are no physical obstructions. Did you check to see if the safety swings in its full range of motion with the trigger removed?

Now that I think about it, it's entirely possible that his cutting the new angles on the trigger and hammer could have caused the rear of the trigger to remain a little higher than it was in stock form, I suppose. If this is the case, you may need to relieve a bit of material from the top rear of the trigger.

without trigger in, safety works fine. I will next remove pistol grip, ect., and check hopefully Bill will respond soon.

I notice a small cylindrical "tab" on the rear of the lower rear section of the trigger. What is the purpose of this? Could this be contributing to the tolerance issue between selector lever and trigger.

I think removal of a small amount of material is in order, but I'm still waiting on Mr. Springfield first..

Bill welded a blob under my RRA 2 stage I sent him, thats what removes most of the take up, and I believe it rests under the safety.
