Saiga 12 or GSG 5?

I'd buy the saiga.

It just seems like a lot of fun to have, and I haven't heard too many good things about that GSG 5.

Also, it only has a 20rnd mag; what is up with that?

Saiga-12, you're looking at an investment about double that of the SG once you factor in the conversions and all that that everyone wants to do to them. Not to mention the magazines are spendy!

That said, both are cool guns, and most people who bought the GSG-5s seem to love them... at least from people I know in real life with one.

Both would cost me another $200 for the tax stamp to chop the barrels down to what the gods intended, plus accessories.

Mags for both would get relatively spendy fast, since they're not guns you'd run around with just one.

Since I have a Vector MP5k-PDW already, I'd probably go with the Saiga.

9mm in an MP5 already feels like a toy compared to the .308s ;0

That and I can tell you which one will be importable longer - the .22LR.

Change your mind and want one down the road, the GSGs aren't going anywhere.

wasr-10 in .223
LOL

Saiga-12. GSG-5 is a fun toy (even with the problems I've had with mine.....) but the Saiga-12 is fun, Brady Campaign Evil, and the best shotgun ever made in the world :D

Good grief. Saiga of course. Not even close.

Now if you'd said GENUINE MP-5 semiauto vs Saiga 12 I'd have to think about that one.

S-12's are pretty darn rare these days.

depends on how badly you want an mp5 clone as a plinker. personally, i agree with most of the suggestions so far to get the saiga. more uses, pretty good quality, and rather fun too. gsg mags are expensive too.

you know, i think gsgs are gonna sell pretty well for the next year at least, with all the youtube videos of people having fun with them. so you could buy one, play with it for a few weeks or months and then sell/trade for the saiga.when you can't have both, have one and then the other! haha

I have 3 Saiga 12s and 1 GSG5. I would go for the Saiga 12.

As for the WASR in 223, WHY??? I always thought that AKs in 223 were pretty dumb when 7.62x39 is almost nearly half the price to shoot.

Well I didn't have to choose so to speak, but I did get a GSG-5 a few weeks ago. It is a lot of fun, and it is just a toy. If you go crazy trying to make it into something it's not (a defensive weapn) then you could spend a lot of money, but most people don't.

I really just don't have any use for a Saiga 12, I've got a mossy 500 with extended magazine tube and a sidesaddle that I use for 3 gun, so it's also ok for an HD weapon.

I love my Saiga 12. Where in the world are people getting 20 round mags for them? I only have 1-5 round mag! :banghead:

I have both. It would really depend on what you want to do with it. They are radically different.

I like the GSG-5 because it is fun and cheap to feed which in turn means that I shoot it more often. It is a fun plinker, range toy, and small game hunter. There are .22s that are much cheaper if you simply need something to fill those roles and buy the S12 instead.

I like my saiga as a tactical shotgun. That said an 870 is a great tactical shotgun and much cheaper if you need a shotgun but buy the GSG-5.

Really they are so different it is simply a matter of which type of gun you want more.

If I had to pick I would probably go with the Saiga. This is because I have it as a tool. My GSG-5 is more for fun. Then again the GSG-5 gets shot way more.
