I recently bought a Saiga 16" 7.62 X 39 and have been plinking with it a bit.

Just curious as to what group sizes you guys get with AK's or similar 7.62 guns at 100 yds.

Minute of grapefruit? basketball? other?

Thanks for any feedback.

saiga gets pretty good groups for stamped ak design. not as good as vepr but better than your ak clones & wanna be's.

check your chamber to see if it supports 7.62x39. some apparently dont support it as fully as they used to. leaves a noticeable buldge below the case neck on steel casings.

Expect ten round 100 yd groups of 8-10 inches in diameter when using milsurp ammo. Anyone who tells you that they get better isn't shooting an AK or AKM, or they're shooting at only 25 yards.

With a SAR-1, 9 or 10 inch groupings. Once in a blue moon, 7 or 8 inch groupings.

With a Sako Valmet Rk 95 with very nice ammo, 3 or 4 inch groupings at 100m. On full auto at 25m, I could put 30 rounds into an area the size of a coffee can. This is of course firing in bursts.

8-10 inches? Ouch. What about those cheap SKS rifles? I thought the 4 inches my Mosin M38 gives was kinda bad....

Hmm barrel length? M38 -517mm/20.35 inch AK 415mm/16.33 inch.
No wonder they say the SKS is more accurate, with a 20 inch bbl...

On a good day, with no caffiene adding to the challenge, I get 6" - 8" groups from my 16" Saiga.
Funny thing, though...I think heat has a lot to do with group size. The first shot out of a cold barrel is scary accurate...way more than I have any right to expect for this Roooskie rifle.
