Taken at Vermejo Park Ranch, NM. Not too big, but these are supposed to make the best eating. Used Norma 156 gr. round, Zeiss Conquest scope. Besides this elk, have now used this rifle to take a Barbary Sheep and 7 hogs, all DRT with factory ammo.

That's great you gotta love that Sako 85. I own 2 of them myself. Is that the finn light or the stainless synthetic. The finn light with the 20" bbl and 156 gr bullets must be running about 2400 fps doesn't seem like a very good choice for a 300 pound animal but it looks like its getting the job done very well.

Gret shot and great pic's.

It is the Finnlight. I am very confident on this setup for cow elk, it would be a different story with the bigger bulls often shot at 300 yds.+. Funny story, last month on a hunting trip in TX I shot a hog and the 6.5x55 did such a number on it a guy hunting with me asked me what I was shooting, he thought it was some 'big' caliber.

Not very far, about 60 yards off-hand. My guide and I were driving and they crossed the road and started to take off, the guide did a cow elk call and they stopped which is when I shot this one. Broke the spine and it dropped right there.

No Surprise Here.

If it is a popular moose caliber over in Europe it shouldn't come as a surprise as an elk cartridge. That long bullet is great for penetration. Congrates!
