Has anyone had a chance to handle or fire a Sako S20? I'm not in the market for a rifle right now, but I am curious what your impression were. They look pretty nifty. :D

I handled an S20 in 6.5 PRC recently and I like them a lot. The one I handled had a tactical stock and was $1,600. They're all built on one action size like Tikka and Mauser, but I like the smooth bolt, 60 degree bolt throw, great magazine, aluminum skeleton, easy to reconfigure, hammer forged barrel, 2-stage trigger etc. I'm in the process of building a 6.5 PRC and this might be the only reason that I didn't buy the S20 a couple of weeks ago.

Sako S20 ... will this be a winner? | The High Road

I have played with the Hunter model.
Its a compact rifle, well suited for driven hunts. The stock feels a tad cheap compared to Blaser and Sauer. Its a Sako though, so it is a really nice weapon.
The trigger is exellent.

I would love to get to handle the precision model also.

It's hard to beat the looks of the 85, but the ability to swap stocks is intriguing.
Oh I don’t know about that! I’m kind of partial to my Forrester and Vixen. Almost as much as my old Model 70s. I like my Krico too. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I looked at a Sako S20 at my local Scheel's and decided against it because it's got an integral rail. Having to mount a rail on top of a rail just doesn't sit with me.

Why would you need to mount a rail on top of a rail? Just curious.

For the price of just a little more than the Sako S20 you can buy a Tikka barreled action, an aluminum chassis, a rail, and mounts.

A rifle with that long-range capability you're probably going to want a 20 MOA rail. The integral rail is flat.

I'd run a Spuhr mount or similar that has cant built in.

True. I like the fact that I was able to replace the factory Tikka rail on my T3 TAC with a 30 MOA EGW rail. I had to add some holes on the underside for the pins but it worked out really well.

The only real detraction for me with the S20 I handled was how "tinny" the stock sounded. It could do with some expanding foam or something.:) Other than that, a really nice rifle.
