New member to start. Just purchased a Smith Wesson 500 magnum backpacker and am going to reload. Could use some info on starter loads. Just want to plunk to start. Also it has a 4 inch barrel
 
I'm new too and the best advice given to me I will give to you; Read every reload manual you can!

For LEE equipment, the LEE manual is a great start and for load info, Lyman 49th. I have several manuals now and when the rubber meets the road, the manual for the bullet manufacturer you are using is very useful. I load with Sierra and Hornady and I use both of their manuals.
 
Sar0405, try changing the title of the thread to "S&W 500 magnum load help needed" and you will probably get more helpful replies.
 
Why not? A lot of people load the .500 to more pleasant levels for general fun.

I plink with a .458 Win Mag sometimes (AA5744 or Trail Boss).
