Since I high-jacked cooldill's thread about the M1 carbine I figure I had better start my own discussion thread.

cooldill's thread got me to thinking about digging out my long forgotten Ruger 10/22 and putting a M1 conversion stock and sight on it. While surfing the web I ran across a folding M1A1 folding paratrooper stock for the 10/22. This thing looks really cool and talk about compact!

So I give it a 10 on the cool factor but has anyone tried this stock yet. Cool is nice but I still want a shooter.

I know nothing about the SARCO stock or it's quality.

I do have an original M1A1 U.S. Inland carbine.
It is compact.
It is cool!!

But an M1 carbine is easier to shoot fast & well with the full wood stock on it.
The folder is a little wobbly, and not nearly as comfortable to shoot.

I agree. When I got my Inland M1 carbine, I picked up a repro M1A1 stock.
Now, I like folding stocks. But the M1A1 stock didn't work that great. A little wobble, and the pistol grip felt cramped and off somehow.
I was glad to tried it out for my interest in history, but I sold it off after a range trip.

I looked through Sarco's website but didn't turn up any M1A1 style stocks for the 10/22. Do you know of another source for them. I have been very pleased with my Butler Creek folder but would like something that more closely resembles an M1A1 stock.

Sarco has them, I looked it up and found it in their stock section.

Yeah, it makes a 10/22 look just like an M1 Carbine. Being a wire type of folding stock I can't see how it would ever be sturdy enough for anything but plinking. That and being very compact for storage just about anywhere.

I have a non-folding M1 stock from Sarco I put on my 10/22 a couple of years ago. It's holding up nicely and I really love the way it looks.

I think with either the folding or fixed stocks the M1 conversion is about image with a plinker. For serious target shooting and hunting there are better grades of 10/22's to choose from.

I saw the M1A1 stocks but didn't know that a 10/22 would fit in one. Brownells carries an M1 carbine stock by West One Products that is a drop-in design specifically for the 10/22.

R.C.,

Thank you for posting the correct link. For a moment I thought I had misread the ad and was going to be super embarrassed.

I do apologize though for posting the wrong link. I was in a hurry trying to get some yard work done.

$150.00 does seem to be on the high side but it is intended for WWII buffs.

Thanks rc and BSA1 for info! Have always wanted an M1A1 carbine, just never could afford the real thing. This would be close enough to work just fine for me.
