This is a solution to another thread I have about "budget exotics"...

I really want another 6.5 Creedmoor for target and some ability to hunt with

My criteria are cool, accurate, 3 pos safety, and corrosion resistant (stainless, cerakoted, etc).

I considered others like Tikka (unoriginal nowadays), Sako S20 (expensive), Steyr THB (heavy), and many others.

I think I have it down to the Sauer 100 Pantera (approx $1000-1200) or CZ600 ($700ish).

What say y'all?

German Sauer with proven track record
Or Czech CZ all new and stuff??

Tough call. I like CZ's. But I don't know anything about either. But I would like to. Both should be nice.

The bluing on the m18 really holds up well, I've got caught out in the rain a few times and one all dayer with constant mist in the air. Never a lick of rust when I stripped it down at night, could have the m18 coated. I really wish they would make a real stainless for the U.S. Market and not coated.

Of those two specific choices, the Sauer.
It’s more rifle. Of course you pay more for it, but it is more. As well, it comes in 6.5PRC. Which is also more, but not so much more as to deter target past times.

It’s racy looking, but not modern tactical like the CZ, which would look like any other chassis rig.

Isn't the M18 a long action for all cartridges?
What about the Steyr CLII SX?

I think the CZ 600 likewise has just one action length -- it was designed as a multi-cartridge action also. That's what disappointed me when the CZ 600 was announced as a replacement for the petite CZ 527 series.

As far as I can tell from their website photos, the medium length action for the Sauer 100 looks to be roughly the same length as both the M18 and CZ 600.

I think the bolt action Steyrs are seriously cool and slick, but their MSRPs start at around twice the OP's pricepoint.

FWIW, if price and specific chambering were not serious issues, I'd consider the Steyr Scout in 7mm-08 -- the action is very smooth and the package is handy. However, the Scout's ultralight barrel would also be a limitation depending on what the OP means by "target" use.

Then again, what I would really want is a Mannlicher-Schönauer carbine in 6.5x54 M-S ... I'm not helping, am I?

Yeah, a Steyr CLII sX in the short bbl, .308

Tried to find one online. None. 1600 to 1800 bucks. Had a wild hair and said screw it I want one and wasted a day trying to find one on the web.

I have a ProHunter in .3006 and its a pig. Ugly but cool. Got it on closeout for 600 a while back. Really need to book a hunt someplace and blood the thing.

Not made if money, but could dump something not using and recoup.

I voted for the Sauer.
Then, other than the 3 positions' safety, the Ruger American Predator might be a better value. Got some extra cash to spend? Buy the Boyd stock for the Ruger and you have a shooter. Second to none.

Sometimes CZ tend to over complicated things that are almost perfect, try to get a CZ 550. My pick the venerable Winchester M70, Mauser M18 or a Sako in your price range will bring the famous smile when you shoulder it.
