I am thinking about building up a budget bolt action rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor for some longer range recreational shooting and a possibility of a deer hunt in CO this fall that will likely call for some longer ranges than my 7.62x39 is up for.
I have seen a few places that have this discontinued model on clearance, and would like some input on whether this would be a good option. I would plan to put on a Hawke Sidewinder left over from another project. That is a heavy scope, and I am not looking to end up with a particularly light rifle (sub 9 lb would be nice, so 7ish pound bare rifle would be fine).
My question is whether this model is a good option? Is this barrel the same one that comes on their other heavy barrel 1:8 twist 6.5C rifles? I was about to pull the trigger on a Ruger American Predator before I saw the Savage. Any other options I should be looking at in the sub $500, 7 pound range?
