I’m going to great lengths to try to find a current production 308 Winchester bolt action with a wooden stock and iron sights that is around $1000 MSRP.

Sad that no one makes such a simple configuration anymore? What’s so special about this combination?

Let me know if you have better suggestions, but the closest I can think of is getting a Savage 110 Scout and dropping it in a different stock. Would the barreled action fit in an older Savage 110 wooden stock? What about Boyds?

Would depend on how old the savage rifle stock is. Ambiguous, I know but savage has made changes to screw spacing, long or short action and where the bolt release is, bottom vs top. I believe Boyd's could make a stock for any of the savage models you just have to know exactly what you have prior to your order.

I was looking at a Boyd's a few years ago right arround the time savage changed the bolt release to the bottom of the action. At the time they weren't making that variant, but probably are now as that is their newest production type. You will also likely need to aquire a different trigger guard as the plastic won't look as good as metal on a wood stocked rifle. There are sources for those.

Over the last 20ish years Savage has used I think 3 different stock styles and they are not interchangeable. Buying aftermarket stocks for them can be a challenge to get the right stock. If you insist on wood and iron sights it is a lot easier and cheaper to just buy the rifle you like and have a gunsmith add iron sights.

Get a scout and drop it in a Boyd's if you really want a .308 with iron sights. As long as it's a 4.4" screw spacing it will fit.

I saw a Tikka 308 in a wooden stock, I don't recall the price but under $1000 in Reeds in Walker Minnesota a month ago. I'd take a Tikka over a Savage every time, but some guys have had really great shooting Savages as well. Look at Ebay for stocks as well.
