I am looking at an ad for a Savage 110FP in .308 in which the barrel is described as a 24" heavy taper barrel. Is this a heavy tapered barrel or is the seller trying to make the barrel sound like it is different than a normal 110 barrel?

Could it be a Savage 10FP? That is a short action, heavy barrel, law enforcement model and only comes in .223 and .308. The newer ones come with Accu-trigger which is nice. Terrific rifle, lousy stock. See if you can get one with a McMillian (my personal choice) or a Choate stock.

Edit. My mistake ... the 110FP is a long action version, same specs, more calibers, and yes it does have a heavy barrel.

I once owned a Savage 110PF in .308 with heavy barrel and original style adjustable trigger. It was a very, very accurate rifle and was not a model 10.

Mine is 15 years old and I don't see anything wrong with the stock.

I have a 110FP in .308 and a 20" heavy barrel.

The rifle shoots much better than the scope... or me...

3/4" to 1" groups at 100yds. with any match ammo I put in it, including my own loads.
