my 223 rem doesnt like the 50gr hornady sp. i'm thinking about a nosler varagedon either 55 - 62gr over a charge of benchmark. i have a 1 in 9 twist, 26 in barrel, accustock, and accutrigger. or if anybody out there has a bullet they want i'll try it!!!

My Savage 10 .233 (1:9) doesn't like the 50 or 53 grain vmax that my vanguard (1:12)loves so I went to 69 SMK's with good results. Had good results pushing them with CFE223 but working up loads now with Varget.

My Savage 11 (1/9) loves 22gr. of IMR4198 and Hornady 52gr BTHP #2249. If your rifle won't group with this load you gotta problem. Even my Vanguard (1/12) groups nicely with this combo. It usually only like bullets under 50gr.

With 1:9 its no wonder. The faster twist rate will stabilize heavier bullets better. I would start at 62grs and go up from there. I have a 12 with 1:12 and it loves 40gr flat base and 55gr boattails in moly. When I switch out the barrel to the 1:9 I use a 69gr MatchKing or 70gr dead coyote.

I have to disagree the 1:9 twist will not stabilize the lighter bullets, it will sure the faster twist rate opens up the possibility to use heavier and longer bullets but it doesn't not remove your ability to shoot the light bullets too. There is a point where a very fast twist rate will effect light bullets but a 1:9 is not at that point. Not even a 1:7 twist will remove the ability to use a 50gr bullet.

I have a M-12 but never used 50 gr bullets. It shoots 55 BTHP cannelure very well. 50 grain is on the light side for a 1:9 considering the max is around 73grs

What kind of shooting? Paper or Plastic

Try a heavier bullet if you can find some.

A fast twist will emphasize any bullet problems with lighter bullets. Perfectly concentric and balanced bullets will shoot well with any fast twist.
