I have this new Savage rifle that is having issues ejecting live rounds. If I have a round in the chamber and decide not to shoot, most of the time the bolt does not extract the live round. It always, however, extracts the spent round.
Should I contact Savage and ship it to them? I imagine if I do so I would have to remove my optics and pay shipping fees etc. If there is an easy fix please share. I don't have much experience working on firearms.

Thanks-
Thomis

i would first give it a VERY good cleaning.......sometimes crud builds up in the chamber and can cause the bullets to stick.

if that doesnt work, give savage a call, and see if they cant help you over the phone...

if you do end up having to send it back....yes, REMOVE YOUR OPTICS.....they wont need to use them, and youll only risk having them damaged in shipment.

as for shipping fees, not sure how thats going to work, but its worth a shot to see if savage will cover them

When it does extract a live round, are there rifling marks on the bullet?

Rimfire rifles with match chambers (match chambers being shorter and tighter) are famous for doing this. Sometimes the bullet will be jammed so far into the rifling that case will eject and leave the bullet in the gun - and the powder spill makes a heck of a mess in the action.

Having a match chamber, or close to one, could be a very good thing for accuracy if you can deal with the inconvenience.
