Used another part of my internship signing bonus I collected this summer to pick up a Savage Mk.II GVXP today. I've had my eye on the Mk.II for awhile because it seemed like a good value. It was one sale at Dicks Sporting Goods. The rifle seems very well-finished with a nice wooden stock, the accutrigger feels great, and it has a heavy bull barrel for those extra-long plinking sessions. Also like the fact that it's a "full-size" .22 rather than a scaled-down gun like many .22LRs.

I'm going to try it out tomorrow; will provide range report.

Dollar for dollar, I still like the cz's best but the Mark II is close. I bought a cheap $114 F model at Walmart as a utility gun but dang, it makes jagged hole groups at 50 yds if the operator doesn't screw up. I can imagine what a heavy barrel and accutrigger do for it.

my best tip is dont skimp on opticks and a bipod, these guns shoot one in or better groups at 100 yds

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Mark II Classic lives up to my expectations when I finally get it out of layaway in a month or so.
