I want to get a bolt action .22lr for paper/plinkin/hunting small game. After some research, I think i want to go with a Savage mark II rifle. It will be scoped.

I dont know whether to go with the MKIIG (sporter barrel with irons, cheap wood stock) at around 170, or MKIIBV (heavy barrel, no irons, nice laminated stock) at around 250.

I realize that the heavy barrel will be more to lug around in the woods, but i wouldnt do much hunting with it, and im young.

what real practical advantages does the BV have over the G? will it be much more accurate? will a scope mount to it better? etc.

I have a Savage MKII that I got at Walmart for 100 bucks with a synthetic stock and irons. It is a great .22 rifle for the price. Savage makes a wonderfull product and I would say anything you buy from them would be a good shooter.

If the more expensive one comes with the "Accutrigger" I would spend the extra money on it. Mine has a decent trigger, its a little heavy, but it breaks real crisp.

I don't know if you have any Dunham's Sports where you live, but I got a MK2 with Accutrigger for $150 a few weeks ago.

I have the BV and love it - no experience to compare with the sporter version though. Mine shoots better than I do without a doubt.
