Hi y'all.
I've been eyeballing a Savage smokeless muzzleloader. The average load develops approx. 2000 fps with a 250-300 gr. bullet. Internet "literature" claims rough mpbr of about 6'' at 200 yards.

What scope do you guys think would be appropriate for the mule deer hunting I plan to use it for?

I am interested in why as much as what.

My gut feeling has me looking in the direction of a 1-4x30, but I'm worried it will leave me feeling short on a long (200 yrd) shots. Is this line of thinking based on rifle idealogy?

Anyway, I am interested in hearing your thoughts.

This might be better posted in Rifles or Firearm Accessories forum rather then the Gunsmithing forum.
But since it isn't.

IMO: 4x is plenty for a muzzle loaders max range & trajectory.
And the wider field of view at the lower powers would be very beneficial at closer ranges in the brush or woods.

200 yards divided by 4x is 50 yards apparent range to the deer.
You can probably throw a rock that far and hit it.

Sorry about the poor placement. It was a mistake on my part. I have attempted to repost it, but my poor computer skills have shown themselves. Again.

I meant to post it in rifle country, as I was interested in opinions of ML 10 owners.

I like the 4x myself. The only reason I haven't committed to it so far is the prevalence of such great deals on really nice 3-9 stuff available at my local gun store.

Yes, you can get a great deal on a 4x4 pickup truck at any dealer too.

But if what you really need is a 4-door SUV, it's not really such a good deal.

Leupold 2.5-8x36 Vx3 mounted low. Not too much, not too little. Great all around scope.

Notice the fake cross-bolt stickers. They only did it on one side. :scrutiny:

Actually it doesn't.

Looking at Leupold VX1 shotgun scopes for instance.
1-4x20 FOV
1x = 75'.
4x = 28.5'.

3-9x40 FOV
3x = 32.9'
9x = 13.1'.

I have a Savage 110ML and it is a very good one. I should had said more power and you can move it to a rifle if you need to. I hope you will like yours as good as I do mine. good luck
