I have a Savage 110 30.06 that I'm rebarreling in .300WM. I think it would be good to install a new recoil lug when I do (couldn't hurt). Does anyone have experience with these to suggest a replacement (thickness/brand). Would the stock barrel nut would be fine with this ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I used an aftermarket recoil lug when I rebarrelled my Savage. Thicker and flatter than factory. I don't remember the brand, there are several in Brownell's and Midway and all are pretty similar.

The factory nut is fine. I don't know of a replacement part anyhow.

lugs

I have changed 2 of my lugs , no problems at al but you want a lug that comes with the indexing pin. And none of the .250 lugs are .250 you will be lucky if you can get one thats .240 if that thick inters of lugs that come with the pin. I got a lug from stockade and it had burrs all over. SOmeone one the savage shooters board was selling barrels and making lugs and the guy was good almost bought a lug from him but i needed a large barrel lug. Alot of the lugs are made by pacific tool gauge. Also calhoun offered to set me up with a lug. You are fine with the lug as long as you dont get one thicker than .250.

Here are two excellent places with Savage recoil lugs

SSS COMPETITION RECOIL LUG
A must for any rebarrel job! The factory Savage lugs are stamped and tend to be distorted and are usually .007 - .010" thicker at the bottom than at the top. Our heavy duty Savage barrel lugs are made from .240" thick stainless steel, and are keyed to mate with the slot in the receiver to prevent turning. Available for both standard and large shank barrels.

Northland Shooters Supply is now offering our own brand of fully CNC Machined 420 Stainless Small Shank Recoil Lugs. Our Recoil Lugs are 100% CNC Machined then Hardened and then Surface Ground to assure flatness. We have been offering these now since 2008. I have gotten excellent feedback from those shooters that have purchased them. The machining on these lugs is very impressive.
