Just gave a look at the Savage site; my first foray in several months. Several rifles in 7mm-08 are listed as having a 1:9.5 twist. I know Savage switched to a 1:14 twist not that long ago and riled quite a few people because that twist won't shoot longer bullets. Now the Axis (renamed Edge for '11) is listed in 7mm-08 with a 1:9.5 twist.

Has anyone heard about them switching back to a 1:9.5 twist by chance?

So is it the Edge or Axis? I thought it was the Edge, then switching to the Axis, but now I've noticed I'm seeing it called the Edge a lot so I wondered if it was originally the Axis and just changed to the Edge by the time it hit stores.

They did go to 1-11.5" for a while in 7-08. I never heard of them going to 1-14". Mine is shooting 150gr Partitions just fine with the 1-11.5 so I guess I won't worry about it. I don't know why they didn't just stick with the 1-9.5 standard though.

They switched to 1:11.5" because almost all factory loadings are 140gr or less -- that's the rumor anyway. If they are switching back kudos to them. Maybe due to people trashing the decision on boards like this? I know I did.

BTW it's not just the Axis rifles listed as 1:9.5" twist now.

1:11.5 was it, thank you. My mistake.

kludge, I saw quite a few others listed as 1:9.5 along with the Axis. But since the Axis would probably be the most recently updated product listing, I hoped it was the harbinger of Good Things.

That's great news, since I just bought one with the 1:11.5 twist. It does seem to shoot OK, though. The heaviest bullet I shot through it was the Privi Partizan 150 gr., and it gave a good group. Hopefully I won't have to buy another barrel or rifle. I really like the caliber.
