Oh wrong thread. Better is subjective. I have 6 Savage heavy barelled rifles, 4 with the old style trigger and 2 with the new Accu-trigger. I really like the accu trigger. All of my rifles are stainless with the laminated wood stocks. I have them in 223, 220swift, 308, 204 ruger, 223 AI and 22-250. All of them will shoot 1/2'' or better 5 shot groups at 100 yards. All of them are equipped with good Glass, most with Leupolds and one with a Nikon. I have not paid more than $550 for any one of them and yes I bought most of them new. With the laminated stocks and stainless barrels they look great. The triggers can be tuned reasonably well either old or new or replaced all together. They shoot incredibly well.A lot of custom rifles won't guarantee better accuracy than 1/2 MOA and I get that with all my guns. The only thing that I have noticed that can probably be fixed is that the bolt does not operate as smoothly as that of the Remington. Buy a Savage, you won't be sorry.

There seems to be those that can't own one without hating the other. Myself , I happen to like both! Have two .223s , one a Rem 700 LTR short barrel (20") tactical rifle and a varmint type (26") barrel Savage 12BVSS.

The out of the box trigger on the Accu-Trigger Savage was much better. The barrel on the Rem 700 can shoot more rounds without fouling compared to the Savage.

Comparing my two .223s the 700 holds the accuracy edge but it has the advantage of better trigger (Jewell replacement) and better glass. Although I replaced the Savage trigger with a Sharp Shooters Supply trigger set at 13oz.

I am very satisfied with both rifles!

I own both, too, but my Remington M7 is my favorite. I love its light weight and compact dimensions. It's a very handy hunting rifle. Savage makes nothing to compare. Ruger and Browning do, but this is a Savage vs Remington thread, right?

That little M7 is 1MOA accurate and rugged stainless/polymer in construction. It's the perfect gun for me. I set the trigger to a crisp 3 lbs, perfect for hunting, and it comes to my shoulder fast and fits me perfectly for those quick off hand shots. It's just a natural extension of my body, so I gotta go with it.

My Savage is a 7mm Rem Mag, friggin' cannon. As such, the extra weight and barrel length is a good thing. I like it, just have little use for it anymore since I'm not hunting out west much anymore and, really, unless I go elk hunting, I see little advantage in it to my Remington. Heck, I think even if I got an elk hunt somehow, I'd take the Remington. .308 will kill elk quite dead to 300 yards and that little gun is very light to carry and I'm not as heathy as I used to be.

I have owned a few examples of both. Savage is the bang for the buck king for accuracy. However, no Savage has shot better than a Remington 700. The Remington has a friendlier trigger (meaning easier to adjust to my liking). It has better fit and finish. And the bolt works smoother.

That Savage can shoot with that giving up all those things says something. And the Accutrigger models make it an even closer call. But of all the rifles I have any experience with two can be counted upon for excellent accuracy. Remington 700's and Steyr. The Savage is close, but no cigar. If the price difference is a big deal, go Savage and don't worry about it. You are missing out on little.
