Save Bushmaster Petition

"It is not Bushmaster's responsibility to investigate every dealer they sell to, that is the job of the Federal Government, through the ATF."

It isn't the Government's job either.

I guess I am preaching to the choir here but...

We had a incident here in Louisville several years ago. An AK-47 was using (along with other weapons) at Standard Gravure. It wasn't the weapon that caused the problem. It was an individual. But it was the evil AK-47 that was viewed as the "problem" here.

Please don't take the following statement the wrong way. I had a friend who's father was shot in this incident.

But, if I had been the shooter.... borrowing my dad's shotgun, I could have done a lot more "damage" than the AK-47 did. What I am trying to say is that weapons will always be available (whether on the black market... stolen by the BG himself... etc.). The type of weapon really doesn't matter. If every employee at Standard Gravure had access to his own AK-47 (or other weapon) the toll might have been less.

I don't see how stopping legal sales of guns would help the situation out (other than disarming the good guys and insuring that they become victims.) I just don't "get it".

(Coincidentally, the gunshop that sold the AK-47 used in that shooting will likely be the same one where I will shortly purchase an AR-15.)

Rant off.

I know this has been said before. Just had to get it off my chest.

I don't see how this petition will do any good. This is a matter of greed and profit from misery. Logic and common sense have no play here.

Don't know what good it'll do, but I added my name. It should be forwarded to a congresscritter for a tort reform bill. Maybe one of them from Maine will sponsor it.

Well, I signed, for the good it'll do. Also ordered a Bushie from the local toy store. should take delivery next week.:neener:

What to do? Well, here are a few things I've done so far:
1. Called the NRA, JPFO, GOA, and VCDL, and asked them what they are doing to help Bushmaster in the press to counter the publicity that the Brady Center is gaining.
2. Mentioned to the above organizations that word on the street is that the Brady Center isn't after compensation for the victims as destroying Bushmaster financially thru litigation.
3. Requesting the above organizations contact Bushmaster to advise on how Bushmaster can set up a Legal Defense Fund.
4. Post the Support Bushmaster petition in plenty of places for others to see.
5. I emailed my "Why I support Bushmaster" essay out in an email to my friends and family (if you want to do the same, you have my permission).

Other things you can do? Call Bushmaster and express your support. If you're REALLY motivated, get somebody to print up "we support Bushmaster" bumper stickers and stick them on your cars. Write the major firearms manufacturers and ask them why they haven't formed a trade association to guard them against these BS lawsuits, similar to how the music industry has the RIAA.

I've seen some forums where folks moan about the NRA not protecting our interests. Remember that it is OUR NRA, nobody else's. If you are an NRA member, call them and let them know what you want them to do. If they do XYZ, and we don't let them that we don't like it, how are they to know better?

- Hope to purchase new Bushmaster in a couple of weeks in addition to signing the petition!

Logistar, never have owned one and hadn't really thought about buying one. I wonder why I was just on their site checking out the products?! ;)

In a legal action the petition is meaningless. The lawyers are going for money and revenge. A petition isn't going to help Bushmaster. As El Tejon said, buy one so they have more money to fight off the lawyers.

The point of the petition is not to stop the lawsuit (nobody believes it will make the Brady Bunch's heart grow big, a la the Grinch). The point is to publicly express support for Bushmaster and disapproval for this lawsuit. This public expression of support can be used in several ways, primarily to show that the people of America are not sheep to be shorn by the anti-gunners.

It's not a magic bullet, but like water dripping on a stone, every bit helps.

The only problem I have with petitions is that people sign them and think that they've done something productive... "I've done my part!" - then don't do anything else.

I wonder what would be more effective in this situation; putting together a legal defense fund, or all of us RKBA types pledging to buy a new Bushmaster? It would be very nice for gunowners to circle the wagons in a constructive manner when these fools try to shut down a manufacturer like this.

It's the frigging lawyers! I'd sure be happy if the courts turned this over on them and made them pay Bushmaster.

Wait a minute! The judges are lawyers too and a lot of polititians are lawyers too.

Forget it.....................

Perhaps we should all buy a Bushmaster product. If not a whole rifle then the parts they offer. Buying a stripped lower, for example would be of help. I hear that the AR15 pattern rifle is quite popular around here.
