Scare Tactics program and CCW

I ran across the program "Scare Tactics" on the SciFi channel awhile back.
It's the show where friends set up friends, have them put in terrifying, life threatening situations to see how they react. (Some friends, right? Hollyweird.)

When I saw the program it made me wonder, what happens if one of their victims has a CCW and carries? What if the victim reacts by drawing a weapon in defense, thinking they really are in danger?
Someone could get hurt or worse.
I wonder if this has ever occurred to the producers of the program?
Are they being even more irresponsible than just scaring the bejimminies out of unsuspecting people?

At first it appeared that the show was taped in California, so the chance of running across a CCW would be fairly slim. But they apparently tape in other states as well. One act was done in Lynnwood, WA, and Washington is a CCW state.

Your thoughts?
 
Well, I guess that we can only hope a bootleg outtakes video shows up on the net. Punk kids should give a little thought before harrassing strangers. Oh wait, that requires a brain. I figure all the folks whose faces are blurred in Jackleg are either ones who they couldn't talk into signing a release or ones who threatened lawyers and bodily harm in either order.
 
"Victims" are set up by their close friends and are heavily screened. Those with the temperament to fight back or resist are not accepted. I'm sure that anybody with a CCW would be immediately removed from consideration.

To be frank, it seems those selected as victims have all the bravery of a wet noodle.

Half my friends don't know I carry.

I somehow doubt that they run into a lot of CCW holders though in LA.


So is CCW information something that the show could get? Is there a number they could call and ask if so-and-so is a CCW holder?
 
I agree, I think that the people are very heavily screened. I can just see someone trying to pull the "Bigfoot" bit on my friends and myself while camping. It wouldn't be pretty.
 
Friends or not, I believe that several civil lawsuits have been filed against the producers of Scare Tactics by those pranked-on.

Sometimes the law is better than a gun.

I have a vision of this bunch deciding that a pastor would make a good "victim", because pastors are notoriously "meek and mild" - and picking me at random as their chosen target. I think I'd enjoy myself - although their "threateners" might not...

My wife and I have watched this show many times. It is quite entertaining.

My wife commented to me that perhaps I wouldn't be the ideal "victim" candidate for this show. She's right, because I know that in at least a couple of the scenarios I saw on this show that it's possible someone would be shot in the face.

Yes, the show is funny - but people can inflict deadly harm when they feel they are backed into a corner and are about to die, even if they don't have a firearm. Keys can become pretty formidable weapons if used in a particular manner.

In the heat of the moment, it would be very easy to have a self-defense counter-attack launched by the "victim". If this counter-attack were to begin, the person pulling the prank would have to do some very quick "splaining"....and I doubt that it could be accomplished in time.

This show is a lawyer's nightmare - and a lawyer's dream, depending on who your client is, of course.

One bit seemed to come close to becoming fairly serious. It was on the first episode I believe, where they set up a guy (passenger) by appearing to accidentally pick up a hitchhiker on the way to a party (appeared to think it was a friend of the driver, turns out a mistake, etc). The Hitch starts acting funny, gets them to stop so he can use take a piss and takes the keys with him. The driver opens the bowling ball bag the hitch left in the car to find a damn real looking human head in there, covered by real maggots and flies. Of course this panics the mark. The hitch gets back in, gets suspicious about the bag. Long story short the hitch starts stabbing the driver with a fake knife. The passenger reacts by trying to help the driver by punching the hitch in the back of the head several times. Really trying to wail on the guy. Everyone gets him to stop and then the prank is annouced, funny reactions, etc. But he got in a couple solid shots to the hitchhiker.

But, prior to the hitch getting back in the car earlier the passenger remarks to his sister or girlfriend (in on the prank) also in the car that he wished he had brought his knife with him after seeing the severed head. Now, was it shear luck that the guy didn't have his knife and stab what he thought was a would-be murdering crazy hitchhiker? Or did the ST staff get the sister or whoever to make sure he had already left it at home? Did she somehow urge him not to carry it, was it common for him to carry it, with the sister knowing? It would be interesting to know. If he had taken out his knife without anyone noticing in the moments that led up to the finale, the ending could have gone pretty badly for this "prank".

Regardless, the way it turned out it was funny as all hell, the guy was freaked out and for once on the show, tried to fight back/protect the others. Seems most of the "marks" in the show run/panic/leave others to be seemingly killed most of the time...


Coincidentally one of the pranks actually involved CCW. The mark was convinced he was actually part of a prank, playing someone attacked by a deranged killer, trying to scare someone entering a docters office. When in fact he is the one going to be pranked, by the woman entering the office and his supposed accomplice. During the scare the person he believes they are playing a prank on pulls out a gun and shoots the other accomplice in the prank dead seemingly. Then the mark panics. What I found interesting was the amount of time the mark had to tell the shooter it was only a prank, and not to shoot. He had several seconds before the "deranged killer" came running into the room after the armed woman had pulled her gun at the sight of the mark (all ripped up bloody and yelling about his "attacker", etc). He did/said nothing to even try to stop her from shooting his accomplice... I like to think I would have been quicker on the "trigger" pun intended to at least try to halt the prank at the sight of gun being drawn... Hard to explain the situation but hopefully you get the gist...
 
I have this very same thought every time I see a commercial for that show. Had thought about posting something about it but I see you guys beat me to it.
 
the show was sued before it even hit the air, a women who found a "corpse" in her bed in a hotel room sued for all sorts of things, settled out of court if I recall correctly, it's a stupid show and someone is going to get hurt or killed one day. at least my friends know better than to pull that kind of crap.

all it takes is one freeked out person grabbing a tire iron or a lamp and it's 911 city....
